Now team and their sup- porters went on to play against the" undefeated team from Wexford. The opposing team was very pro- fessional and its players showed very litle facial expression on and off the court whereas the Port Midgets displayed their usual chatter, camaraderie, sportsman- ship and team player encourage ment. In Game One, Port was ahead 14.9 but suddenly Wexford put their act together and won 16-14. In Game Two the Port Perry fans urged their team on to a victory. It was tight but the Port Midgets outplayed the opposition, winning 15-12. The crunch was on; who- ever won this next game would win the Gold. Our girls were all "figed up for a victory and wanted 10 show a city school what a rural school can do. Wexford seemed to fall apart and our girls showed a terrific display of wam effort and sportsmanship. The girls won handily by a score of 15-4 and won the Gold Medal, a first for a Port Perry team at the Midget level Playing on this team are Dana McCullough, Shawna Cornish, Julie Ball, Amy Parliament, Marci Zuly, Kyla McCrae, Lisa Kim, Emily Cosway, Sara Cosway, Kelly Phipps and Julie Sargent Stay wned to read about more vic- tories from this talented team Key Bar Juveniles Hockey As playoffs draw near, the Key Bar Office Equipment Juveniles closed out another successful tour- nament season, by winning two 'A' Division championships and finishing runners-up on the A side of the three tournaments played, losing 10 a strong AA team from Markham by one goal at Brighton carly in the season. This was accom- plished as penalties were kept 10 a Scott back, especially with Todd Taylor out with a broken thumb. The second game of the day against a strong Godfrey Club was a nail-biter right to the end. Port went ahead 2-0 in the first period, only to see Godfrey come back with three goals in the second period to go ahead 3-2, due 10 some poor backchecking by our forwards'and a few giveaways in our own zone by our defence. Gerry Douma tied the game at three apiece with only six minutes left in the game. We didn't think we would have to go into over- time as Gerry Douma raced down the ice on a breakaway with the goalie out of position, the open net staring him the face, only to hit the goal post as he hurried the shot. But with only two minutes left in overtime, Gerry still sicam- ing from missing the open net, blocked a shot at the blue line, skated down the ice, made a per- fect deck on the goaliender again and slid the puck under him for the winning goal. Since this is Gerry's last year of eligibility, it was nice to see him get that win- ner, Our first game of the day against Wilberforce (north of Haliburton) was really no contest as our boys won this one easily, 12-1. They had some pretty big boys but lacked in skills and goal- tending, In all, it was a team effort all the way with everyone getting in on the scoring. Mike Sorley was given a nice trophy for being MVP for the day. The score remained 2-0 in Port's favour until the 2:51 mark of the final period when Ajax managed to slip the ring into the net. Determined to stay in the lead, Port Perry dug in their skate blades and set up in front of Ajax's net. With only 10 seconds remaining, Dawn Doucette picked up a pass from Karen Ket to fire the ring into the open corner to ensure Port's victory. Tracy Pelow turned in a fine performance between the pipes helping the Ivory Forest Juniors to skate 10 a 3-1 victory over the Ajax Belles. A special thank you goes out © the ringette players from the Ivory Forest Junior AA, along with their Junior who took to the injury list, due to a bile accident. + Monday night Uxbridge came 10 town and managed to play Port tough for a period. The only goal of the first was the first of a hat trick by lan Shrigley. Kearns intercepted a clearing attempt and fed lan in the slot for a quick drive inside the post. Shrigley upped the lead in the second, circling the net and finding the S-hole. Kearns and Jason Phillips combined to start the play. Jay King went to work then, assisting on five straight Port goals and scoring the next himself. Scan Ellis took King's pass over the line and dropped one onto Jay Tredway's stick. Tredway actually misfired but the goal- tender moved too quickly and was beaten anyway. The two Jays then teamed up to set up Ellis for a beauty of his own, also the first of a hat trick for him. Uxbridge got their only score late in the second when Mike Pashley had no chance on a deflection of a comer shot. Ellis's second got that back in a hurry, when King and Shrigley set up his second to put Port up 5-1. Country Style continued to attack in the third, as Ellis and Shrigley each scored their third; and King and Jeremy Norton rounded out a 9-1 victory. Third period assists went to King (2), Matt Morris (2), Kearns, Norton, Dave Bourgeois, and Ian Ivory Forest Junior AA Ringette Sunday, January 19 the Ivory PVC Paul Van Camp wo 985-9725 the ice during the first period intermission at the MoJack game to demonstrate the game of ringette.
