Thanks for the memorie PN Thanks for the memories, guys. Jwo eras of Port Perry hockey met Saturday evening at the Scugog Arena, giving fans a look at the pre- sent and a wonderfully nostalgic look back in time. The Beare Motor Bantams. win- ners of the all-Ontario title 15 years ago this spring were re-united for a spirited exhibition contest against the Precision Construction Midgets, winners of the all-Ontario crown last year. The Baniamef®ho we will call the "older guys," seemed to greatly enjoy: the experience, chasing the fleet-footed Midgets around the big ice surface. And though a few were in "less than tip-top game shape," this-match moved at a nifty pace from start to,finish and perhaps fit- tingly enough, ended in a 9-9 dead- lock. The "older guys" were bol- stered (somewhat) by four pretty decent hockey players in Warren Geer, Brad Menzies, Phil McBride, . i Sons and Lee Wilbur who the nine-year old stick-boy with a eare Motor team. And the Midgets iced just nine skaters as many of the team was involved in tournament play out of town. But they put on quite a show for the crowd (and: raised $240 for Port The 1976-77 Beare Motors all-Ontario Bantam champs as they look now in 1992. The team got together Saturday night for a reunion and exhiblon game against the 1991 Midget all- Ontarlo winners. And-it was quite a night for the pla: and the appreciative fans (see story). Team members are, back from left: coaches Jim Burnett and Don Phinney, Charlie Brown, Todd Wilbur, Robin Tobin (standing in for brother Mike, deceased), Rob Cannon, Wayne Robinson and head coach Doug (bow tle) Scott. Front, Perry Minor Dries process) from Warren Nicholishen in the Bantam nets who faced plenty of rubber and stopped plenty of rubber, to the defense of Wayne Robinson, - Hall Storry, Scott Heard, the for- wards, Darrin Jobb (the captain), Rob Cannon, Todd Wilbur, George Burnett, Greg Kroonenburg, Clark Menzies, Dave Alexander and Charlie Brown, The squad was coached by Doug Scott,.Don Phinngy and Jim Bumett, with Doug 2 and Don "dress- ing for the occasion" in the sporty dow ties they wore 15 years ago. And even the refs, Dave Ballingall and Robert Kroonenburg who donated their time for this special game, were in fine form, for the most part putting the whistles away to just let the players enjoy them- selves. The Precision Midgets had Mau Willetts between the pipes and he too faced a fair amount of rubber, especially when George Burnett teamed with Menzies and Geer. Other members ofthe Midgets, coached by Dave Bourgeois, who suited up for this one were Brett Puckrin, Gayin Cochrane, Jason Cochrane, Jody | Logan, Jeff Parry, Geravin inc Steve Laird, Dan Sluggeit, and Corey Bricknell. And they found the "alder guys" could still make a move or two. The entire game was videoed by. Emiel Kroonenburg,- and no doubt that make good enteftainment over After the game, the players gath ered:for some hot food, cool refresh ments and many tall stories at the Galley Restaurant where Phil and Sylvia McBride served as hosts, for most of them, the path of life has taken them in different from left: George Bi Warren N Darrin Jobb and Hal Storry.
