Midget Eagles taking their show on the road The Precision Construction Midget Eagles will take their show on the road to Cobourg tonight (Tues. Feb. 18) and a win will give them the series four games 10 one. The Eagles turned in a strong game on home ice Saturday evening as they dumped Cobourg 5-2 10 take a 3-1 lead in games. And Feb. 11 in Cobourg, the Eagles scored four un-answered goals en route to a 4-1 victory. In Saturday night's crucial game, the Eagles broke open a close contest in the final frame, scoring three goals while shutting down the Cobourg attack. Steve Laird and Jody Logan had notched second period mark - ers to give Eagles a 2-1 lead. But Cobourg's Scott Herriot tied it with six minutes to play. The third period was all Port Perry as the Eagles swarmed around the Cobourg goalie. Jason Cochrane got what proved to be the game winner in the opening minute with help from Geravin Sytnyk and Jason McBride. Insurance came late in the peri- od as McBride was set up by Nathan Brown and Sean Ellis. And with just over a minute left, Shannon Todd iced it for the Eagles with help from Cochrane and Peter King. On February 11 in Cobourg, the home town team opened a 1-0 lead in the first on a goal by Herriot. But that's all they got as the Eagles took over from there as Sytnyk cvened things up in the first. Second period goals came from McBride, Todd, and Sytnyk with his second of the game. Unul Saturday night's win on home ice by the Eagles, this had been anything but a home ice series as the visiting team had won its games on the road. Coach Doug Scott is counting on his team to once again come up with a strong effort on the road tonight to end the series as these two clubs have been hot rivals all season long. Should Cobourg win it, howev- er, the series will resume on Thursday in Port Perry at 9:15. Atom action! Monday February 11, Atom House League Lake Scugog Lumber Atoms hosted Lions Club on P.A.-day and came out on top with a 4-1 hard fought win. The first period was scoreless thanks to the fine goaltending of Jonathon Froats and Tom Keeble. Ben Stepheftson opened the scoring for Scugog on a fine rush by defenceman Chris Orr, passing behind the net to Travis Pickard and out 10 Ben at the side of the crease and in she goes Jonathon Reed upped the lead to 2-0 on a centering pass from Spencer Bedell and Mark Delaney. Tim Wray closed the gap to one on a fine pass from Bob Cowie. The Lions Club proceeded to put on the pressure but to no avail as Travis Pickard picked the top comer for Scugog on nifty passes from Ben and Graham Strickert. Jonathon Reed playing his usual stickhan- dling game broke in alone on Froats and deked him out of the net, depositing the final goal of the game on an assist from Alex Bedell. This was a fast skating game throughout and could have gone cither way. Defensively, John Chambers for Scugog and Ryan Hawkins for Lions stood out. Offensively, Bob Cowie for Lions and John Bacon for Scugog had exceptional games. Monday February 12, Atom House League The game between Scugog Lumber and Whitby Auto Wreckers on Wednesday February 12 not only wrned out to be the best game of the year, but the 'Mike McClennan Show'. Mike stopped everything the Lumbermen threw at him -- break- aways, point blank shots and goal- mouth scrambles. Jamie Clarke scored the first two goals for Whitby, both assisted by Wade Ritchie. With two and a half min- utes/remaining, John Bacon scored on a rebound assisted by Mark Sauter, to bring the score to 2-1. Scugog pulled their goalie but McClennan stoned them cold, with all the action in the Whitby end. This was the first game that the Strickent-Pickard-Stephenson line for Scugog has been held off the scoresheet defensively, Mike McClennan was the star of the show for Whitby, while the Scugog Lumber defence of Orr, Mahaffy, Chambers, Painter and Delaney stood out for Scugog, keeping Blayne Kinnunen in check. Offensively, Jamic Clarke for itby, and Travis Pickard for Scugog had strong games. Whitby 2, Scugog 1.
