More Olympic events are some games of their own. This group of stu- dents in photo represent (obviously) the planned this week at Cawker School. Port Perry Broomball action Needing a win to clinch first place in the Port Perry Broomball League, the B and R/Swamp got second period goals from Dan Taylor and Dale Lown in a game played Sunday afternoon. Mike Mitchell assisted on both goals and Keith Tremblay was steady in the nets to record the shut-out B and R then had to finish an overume game from December 15 against Emmersons Alain Dore counted the only goal in the continuauon and it was enough to give Emmerson a 2-1 win. Emmerson and Monsma hooked up in the second game Sunday with Don Jansma and Murray Down opening the scor ing They went in front 3-0 as Canadian Tire Midget 'B' Islanders back to playoffs Canadian Tire Midget B Islanders resumed their playoff serics with Owen Sound at Scugog Arena Sat. Feb. 15. Going into this game, each team had one win in a best of five series. The first period saw lots of action with each team scoring two goals. Islanders goals by Scott Wylie and Chad Garvock with assists to Steve Desautels 2, Chad and Scott one each. The second period saw exciting end to end action with Scott Airey scoring to give Port a 3-2 lead. A couple of foolish penalties allowed Owen Sound to knot the score at 3, to end the second peri- od. The third period saw the Isles come on strong carly to score and take the lead 4-3. Goal by Mike Williams with assists to Todd Smart and Scou Wylie 3 victory to take 2-1 lead in games. Sunday Feb. 16 at 12:30 p.m. found the Isles and Owen Sound facing off for game four. The visitors were very aggres- sive and opened up a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period. Early in the second, Jason Coutoulakis got the Isles on the board from a scramble in front of the net. Assists to Chad Garvock and Steve Desautcls. Late in the period, Owen Sound scored again to take a 3-1 lead into the third period. The third period saw the Isles play tough and score three goals, Chad, Steve and Todd Smart all scoring. Assists to Scott Wylie, Mike Williams, Chad and Jason. Unfortunately, Owen Sound also scored three. Final score, 6-4 for Owen Down scored with an assist from Greg Gibson. Alain dore from John Saunders and Wayne Tate made 1t 3-1 Monsma after the first. Goals by Tate, Dore and Peter Szemont evened the game at 3-3 and sent it into over-ume which settled nothing Both teams tallied three times in the OT as it ended in a 6-6 deadlock Dave Dickson with two and Murray Down with a single did the scoring for Monsma, while Dore replied with two and Saunders with one for Emmerson The final game of the day fea- red two teams that will face each other in playoffs Woody's jumped nto a 4-0 lead before Blackstock replied to ruin the shut-out bid Gene Woodrow, Bradley Maarse, Bob Clarke and Dalton Snodden did the scoring for the Woody's team with Clarke getung two assists and singles to Maarse, Jim Gregg and Pat Cook Bill Pratt from Rick McLean did the scoring for Blackstock Congratulations to Dave Dickson on winning the scoring crown for the league and to Keith Tremblay for having the lowest woals-against average among the netminders Playoff action gets underway next Sunday afternoon with Woody's hooking up against Blackstock at 4:00 PM, followed by Monsma in a tilt with the Swampers at 5:00 PM Spectators are more than wel- come to take in the games at the Scugog Arena. Green Machine back The Green Machine and the Grey Thunderjets were back in action in Junior Floor Hockey Feb. 10 with the Machine jumping into an carly 4-0 lead. And they kept the momentum Slush takes its toll Slushy conditions on the ice took their toll on tires, rims and riders in Oshawa Competition Motorcycle Club races at Kent's Bay Sunday afternoon. What a difference from the previous week when frigid tem- peratures hampered the racing. But last Sunday the conditions were so tough that many drivers had 0 borrow bikes from friends 10 complete the final races. This coming Sunday is the last for racing this season and the Club invites spectators to come out and enjoy the action. Here are results from last week's racing. Deciding game Tues. Feb. 18 in Owen Sound. Manvers winners This team from Manvers Mens Friday Night Hockey League came up a winner in a recent tournament in Detroit's Joe Louls Arena. The team, sponsored by Murray Archibald Snap-on Tools, lost its first two games then won three straight, inciud- ing a 6-4 victory over London in the ch ip.
