50Ug0g men's hockey into 'second' season The regular season is over in the Scugog Mens Hockey League and as the old saying goes, the sec- ond season (as in playoffs) is about to get started. Closing out the regular schedule last Sunday morning, Sportsland and Van and Truck World got into a football game with Sportsland hanging on to win by a safety 9-7. . Bill Bridge was on fire for Sportsland as he fired four goals and two assists for an un-converted touch- down and set a new scoring record for the league with 63 points in 22 games. Keijo Kinnunen had a five point outing avith four assists and a goal, as did Mike McQuade with the same numbers. Brian Callery and Ivan Geer each had a goal and assist with Jim Fowler netting a single. Scott Davis had two assists in a winning cause with one each to Ken Little and Doug Bache. Larry Pilkey and Larry Jackson each had two goals and one assist for Van and Truck and Dale Bronson fiad a goal and two helpers. Tim Cullen had a goal and assist and Kevin Reid had a single marker. In the set-up department, Mike Driscoll had three with one each to Kevin Trapp, Brain Samis, Wayne Fox, and Marvin Stevenson. The teams forgot about the Grey Cup and stuck to hockey in game two as Nortons nipped J and D Carpentry 4-3 ina tight-checking affair. Ken Davison fired a pair for the winners with Dave Roth netting a goal and two assists, Jason 'Warner had a goal and assist with Brad Hurst and Randy Prosser each getting two assists. For J and D, Todd Wilbur had two goals, Gary Lance one goal and two assists, Mark Burger two assists, Dave Milton and Brian Cowie each with sin- In game three, Fitzgeralds had to overcome a 2-0 deficit to scramble back into the game and defeat Andersons 3-2. Henry Forderer had a goal and assist for the win- ners with Rob Evans and Lee Wilbur rounding out the scoring. Bruce Smith set'up two goals with one assist each to Doug Bronson and Paul Van Camp. For Andersons, Peter Lane from Carl Durward and Glen Hudson from Lee Steeves and Peter Lane did the scoring. Game four was another tight-checking contest with Crandells nudging Compton Cable 4-3. Donovan Smith fired two for the winners, Steve Groves a goal and assist and John Kortoba a single goal. Steve Calder, Ken Jeffrey, Richie LeFort and Rob Kroonenberg had assists. For the Cable TV crew, Larry Page had two and an assist with Sandy Garvock getting the other. Country Style Bantam A of Bl Harvey Graham named Cattleman of the Year the Cattieman of the Harve Year Award from the Ontario Cattieman's Association. The award was presented to Mr. Graham at the OCA annual meet- Ing last week. The award is for dedication and contribution to the cattle industry, and carries with it a $500 donation from Dyntex to the charity of Mr. Graham's choice. He earmarked the $500 to the Community Memorial Hospital Building Fund and board member Joyce Kelly (right) received the cheque. Lions opened the scoring with Chad Lance getting the goal with help from Jason Gunn and Joel Phoenix. That goal held up until the Travis Pickard tied things in the second on a breakaway pass from Ben Stephenson and Chris Orr. Pickard "then put the Lumbermen up by one with an assist to Jon Chambers and Graham Strickert. He had a strong game for this team as did Chad Lane for the Lions. And the next day, he picked up where he left off by opening the scoring against a determined Lewis Motors team. Adam Mahaffey got the assist, and then Johnathan Reed made it 2-0 on a solo effort.
