Lake Scugog Lumber captures championship in Atom House League Lake S Lumber captured the Atom H.L. championship Friday afternoon with 8 5-1 victory over arch-rival Whitby Auto Wreckers. It was a great way to end the t contest on a shot by Paul Brain thal seemed to handcuff Séfigog goalie Tom Keeble. John Sanders drew the assist on the goal. And the eventual winner was netted by Spencer Bedell on a breakaway as he drilled a hard shot that never left the ice. Travis Pickard pnd Alex Bedell set the goal up. Mark Sauter gave he Lumber guys a 3-1 lead off a rebound with Travis and Chris drawing the assists. And Mark made it 4-1 in the third on a nice passing play with Travis and Jared Painter. And he 80t his hat trick a short time to give them a 5-1 lead that held up until the end of the game. Mark Delaney got the assist on that one. Congratulations 10 the Wreckers for their fine season and their good, clean play through the year. And the Lumbermen (see photo) want to thank their parents for all the support they gave them through the season. Van Camp wins Novice championship A group of young hockey play- ers on the Van Camp Contracting team won't soon forget March 25. That was the day they won the Novice House League champi- onship with a hard-fought 4-1 vic- tory over Port Perry Printing. Both teams hit the ice in the first period with fire on the blades of their skates. And the goal- tenders, Ryan Woods for Van Camp, and Shane Fisher with the Pripters, were forced to cover every inch of the cage. The Contractors struck first as lan Gamett snared a pass from Joe Thomson and it was in the cage Ashleigh Murphy, Joel Thomson, Mike Dalby and Eric Bird were sharp on the defense wilh some fine plays 10 keep the Printers off the scoreboard until late in the second period when Ryan Haslam was set up by Matt MacMaster. Ryan Woods made a great effort 10 stop the shot as he sprawled across the goal mouth. Just 20 seconds into the third period, the tie was broken when a determined Mike Dalby was set up with a pass from Garett.
