Opti ists want teen dances back The newly formed Sunrise Optimist Club of Port Perry wants 0 bring teen dances back to the Bihan Centre, with the help of local teen-agers. The Optimists have called a meeting this Wednesday (May 27) at 7:30 in the council chambers and members hope enough teen- show up to form a commit- tee to help the club run the teen dances at the Latcham Centre. Gerry Cochrane of the Sunrise Club, told council Monday the club's motto is "friend of youth™ and club membérs are anxious to ~help re-establish the teen dances at the Latcham. ) He said the club would be the organizing group, but the commit- tee of teen agers would make the decisions such as when the dances should be held. And he said the Rebel DJ Services (Steve McEac and Carl Payne) bave agreed 10 ide the music. Teen dances at the Latcham were suspended eight weeks ago when council asked for a review _of policies. And there had.been at a teen dance last win- ter at the Masonic Hall when a fight spilled onto the sidewalk and* street. » Mr. Cochrane pointed out to council that the "problem" dance last winter was not organized by the Rebel DJ Service.
