A large crowd attended the gala MC'd by Wally Donaldson, sports writer with the Oshawa Times. from the House Leagues and the OMHA rep teams for their perfor- mance over the past season. Individual plaques were present- ed 10 both the champion and finalist teams in the Novice, Atom, Pee Wee and Bantam House Leagues, the first time ever these awards have been made at the banquet. Scugog Mayor Howard hall was on hand to present Township medal- lions to the Precisi Minor hockey awards night MolJacks; and Kayle Short of the OHA 'Sudbury Wolves and Brian Murphy of Guelph. And George Bumett was on hand to present some of the individual plaques and trophies. The Port Perry native and former coach of the Junior C MoJacks has just signed a two-year contract to coach the Breton Oilers (Edmonton's farm team) in the American Hockey George has spent the last two seasons behind the bench with the Niagara Falls Thunder and last year won the Junior "coach of the year" award, Signing with Cape Breton means George will be at the NHL draft later this month and the Edmonton Oilers training camp in Edmonton in Midget Eagle team Tor taking the all-Ontario ch hip. in a "The awards part of the evening thrilling eight-game series against Beamsville. The answer, according to the Mayor's research was two-John Ross Roach, a well known goalie who played in the 1920's and a chap by the name of Lorne Beare who saw four games with the Boston Bruins in the 1930's. Head table guests included newly acclaimed Minor Hockey president Grant Laird and a four Junior y players----Clair Cornish Brad Menzies, co-winners of the MVP award for the Junior C luded with the p ion of the prestigious Minor Hockey Life Member plaques to Elmer Lee and Hillis Wilbur for their service and dedicated support of the organiza- tion over many years, Thiitiis coached George Burnett when he was Tyke age) Both these gentlemen have played a big role in the development of Minor Hockey in this community over the years and the Life Member plaques were richly deserved. They were presented by Doug Scott, him- self a life member, and past presi- dent Larry Lee, who is Elmer's son. As well, Doug Coates was pre- sented with a special award. Mr. Coates and Coalition: Acres farm have sponsored the Midget rep team tournament for many years.
