Port Perry players drafted to OHL Gavin Cochrane and Corey Bricknell would like nothing bet- ter than to run into cach other in the corners when the Niagara Falls Thunder and the Newmarket Royals tangle in an Ontario Hockey League (OHL) game this fall. Cochrane and Bricknell were "selected by those respective clubs in the OHL entry draft on Saturday, and it was a big day for these two defensemen who were at Maple Leaf Gardens where the draft was held. Cochrane, 6° 1" 170 pounds turned 17 last March. He was selected by the Thunder in the 9th round, the 141st player drafted. After playing all his minor hockey in Port Perry, he joined the Junior C MoJacks last season and had enjoyed a fine rookie year. Bricknell, 6' 27, 170 pounds won't turn 17 until October. The Royals (formerly in Cornwall) selected him in the 4th round Jeff Andrews (60th overall). Last scason, he saw regular duty on the blue line with the Jr. B Oshawa Legionaires and enjoyed a fine personal year with a last place team. Also drafted last Saturday was Jeff Andrews who played Novice, Atom and Pee Wee rep hockey in Port Perry before moving to Oshawa. Last season, the big right winger was a member of the Oshawa Kiwanis Midgets (Triple A). Andrews was selected in the third round (46th overall) by the North Bay Centennials. Both Cochrane and Bricknell can hardly wait for the training camps to open in late August. And they are confident. "You have to be confident going in. Tracy Smith, Jackie Dempster, Brenda Elford and Nancy McConnell had singles for the Angels. In the 4-3 loss, the Angels got on the board in the third inning when Tracy Smith rapped a single, then scored on a triple by Lisa Best who in turn scored on Gina Spence's single 10 make it 2-1 Oshawa went up 4-2 in the fifth inning, but the Angels made it 4-3 in 6th off a triple by Michelle Reader and single by Kim Stewart Lisa Best, Kim Stewart and Gina Spence all had two hits for the Angels, with Michelle Stewart, Tracy Smith and Jackie Dempster getting one each There was plenty of hitting and lots of action as the Angels and Pickering battled their way 10 PPHS settles for silver The Port Perry High School Junior rugby eam came within an eyelash of winning the Ontario championship st the Barbarian Cup held over the weekend in Markham A missed convert early in the game may have boen the difference as the PPHS Rebels went down lo defeat 12-10 at the hands of the very powerful squad from Sir John A. MacDonald School in PPHS coaches Ron Pither and Karl Svoboda were more than pleased with this magnificent showing by the team. Sir. John A, by the way, with a student population of 1800, had not lost » game all season and had not given up a try all season, until they ran into the Junior Rebels from PPHS in the final on Sunday. Al Lazenby and David Morin scored the tries for the Rebels in that one. The Rebels advanced to the final with a flawless record in the two-day ournament. They defeated Barrie North 3.0 in the semi final; started the tourme- ment with 60 win over J. F. Roms from Guelph: then had an casier time of it with wins of 24-0 over Scarborough and 22-0 over St Catherines. Breu Lawson, Mark Cosway and Lindsay Parry all turned in strong performances over the weekend. Simon Trainor scored four tries and Anthony Farrell had three in the Woumament.
