lier, Mosport International Speedway roared to life once again this past weekend (June 27th) with its thrilling brand of stock car racing action which includes Street Stock, Sportsman, Late Model, and Thundercar divi- sions. This weekend also provided some extra excitement for the fans 8s a Ladies race was put on the schedule as a special feature event. The Ladies races are comprised of the wives or the girlfriends of the drivers who reg- ularly compete here at Mosport i peedway. Well, this race did not disappoint yone as the women donned their Miers pf on their driving suits and wok to the track as if they did it every week themselves. It sure was exciting 10 soe them going door handle to door handle as they put on a great show with lots of passes, spins and hard charges. But in the end it was Donna Smith from Port Perry who took the checkered flag and the win as she stormed across the finish line very proud and deserving. Second place went to Debbie Shepstone, also from Port Perry and in third was Laura Davidson from Toronto. In the Street Stock division, Andy Warbutton (from Oshawa) had a flaw- less night as he won two heat races early in the evening and then stormed home across the finish line like never before, capturing the feature race, tak- ing the trophy and the coveted victory lap in style. Not far behind and stay- ing close to Warbution and able to grab second place was Jim Rossiter from Scarborough. Third went to Graham Brown of Willowdale. In the Sportsman division, Ken Paston (from Caledon) was the happy man of the evening as he won a heat carly in the evening and then went on 10 smoke everybody on the race track as he did some incredible driving and went on to win the feature race as well.In second and doing some amaz- ing driving feats of his own to stay with the leader was Daryl Leatherdale from Blackstock. The Muffler and Brake bats bombed the Spitfires defense with clutch hits by Johnathon Taylor, Jessica Cleeton, and Michael McKenna. The Spitfires fired back with outstanding play headed by Danielle Beach, Shona Tighe, and . Jessica Spence . At the west diamond the Pon Perry General Store met one to one with Lizy-Lou Decor. The General Store crew went shopping for some runs. Registering hits were Ricky Rahm, Joshua Durward, and Deena O'Hare. Fortunately for the Merchants, the Eagles were out of the tournament by this game and their skills had collected a bit of rust. The Merchants took the game 8-0 behind some fine pitching by Smith, Card and Venning, who allowed just five hits by the Eagles. Not only did the Merchants tum in a fine game defensively, they were able to tune up the batting Other hits came from Jason Cochrane with two singles, Steve Laird a triple and singles from Moase and Vander Ligt. The Merchant coaching staff feels the Eagles will want to play the Merchants in a retum match under more favourable circumstances and they are looking forward to the challenge. In up-coming games, the are in Stroud June 30 at 8:30 PM; in Scarborough July 6 at 8:30 and host Markham July 7 at 8:30 PM.
