Even though the Merchéints had only one game, it was an important fur pointer, with first place in the Oshawa League standings still up for grabs. On Tuesday, the Reds visited Port and went home with a 5-3 win. It was an unusual game, in that each team scored all their runs in one inning. The Reds went ahead 5-0 in the top of the second before the Merchants' pitching and defense bore down and stopped them shart. In bottom of the fifth, Brad Moasc led off with a sin- gle and advanced to Second on a passed ball. He crossed the platéon an RBI single by Darrell VanderSlagt who also scored on a Scout McLennan RBI triple. Chad Venning went to first on a hit pitch, and reached second on an RBI sin- gle off the bat of Grant Kay. McLennan was able 10 score Port's third run on this play. With a man at first and second and none out, the inning looked be promising, but the next three ters couldn't deliver. The only batter to reach base after that was a Moase walk in the sixth. This win for the Scarborough Reds was important, as it keeps them in the running for first place in the league standings. Port's starter Denis Smith and reliever, Jeff Card, combined for a very accept- able four strike oyts, no walks, 5 hits allowed, and 5 edmed runs.
