Is it really OK to dump anywhere? by Marlene Russell Now is the time for all good It's been so long since my last column, you'll have to pardon my warm-up exercises. I was beginning td think the only way you'd see me in print again was if I re-titled my. columh as a "letter to the editor." It appears Scugog Citizens and having published in the local press. . I'll honestly admit to being laid back locally this summer and have used what litle timé I get to try to put a dent in the pile of "must reads" that have been gath- ering dust on the shelf. Breezing quickly through our paper, I've noticed that the sum- mer of '92 will be remembered for two issues. They are "what summer!" and "the dump." A thought qn the first issue. There is nothing we can do about the weather except leam to cope with as much enthusiasm as we can muster, This isn't easy, I realize, but muster we must. (Our basements have their own collections of The second issue goes much deeper than the dump and raises three very odd questions. What will happen to all those "don't dump on us" signs? Who should we dump on? Is it OK to dump in somebody else's backyard? Speaking of backyard. | won- . der how our consumer habits would change if everything we bring onto our property or into our homes had to remain there, We + would still make use. of recycling programs, etc., but any product that didn't have a system in 'place for future use would remain in our possession. Makes one stopiand think, doesn't it? Assault Charge Durham Policé, have charged a 36-year old Uxbridgé area man with sexual assault following an incident near that community. Police said a 30-year old woman was dragged from a truck at a property on Concession Two, Uxbridge. The property was that of the accused. The incident was reported to. A possible plan was mentioned---it was a plan to have us pay according to the amount of garbage we leave behind. My response? In order to work, honesty MUST be relied on heavily. Those of us not yet hav- ing acquired this virtue could choose to leave our bundles on anoths drive.
