No matter how you shave it, or cut it, the big winner in the Beard and Moustache contest was the Scugog Shorés Museum. Over $3,000 was raised for the Museum from this popular contest and there was a lot of very distinguised looking facial foliage on display Saturday afternoon at the Museum as the beard and moustache growers were judged in various categories. Judges Yvonne Christie, Rhonda Fraser and Cathy Pavlik had a tough time measuring and touching all those chin whiskers to determine thé winners, Qut they finally selected three in Judges Rhonda Fraser,Yvonne Christie check out the beards sported by Roy Walker Smith, Bill each category. Don Gibson took the h dleh law enforcement officer for moustache category by a whisker (groan) over Jim Wills and Sam Harper. Roy Walker Smith was judged to have ithe most luxurious growth of facial hair followed closely by Bill Henshall and Norm Shepherd. Bill Henshall had the longest® beard with Butch Latta and Rob Kelly close behind. And the prize for the most unique shrubbery went to Murray Hoskin with Roy Grierson and Norm Shepherd trailing by a hair. Bill Henshall raised the most money of all the contestants, a whopping $1100. Judging was held in conjunction with the Museum's poplar Fall Harvest days. * _ Actually, an additional $55 was raised as Roy Grierson's beard went up for auction for the right to shave it off. The bidder was none other than Township "Mayor Howard Hall who happily attacked Roy's beard first with scissors, then with shaving cream and razor. The big smile on the Mayor's face had nothing to do with those zingy letters to the editor Roy is known for. Of course not. It was all in good fun for a worthy cause. Cubs enjoy a Samac outing- The 1st Port Perry cubs continued their tradition of keeping the "outing" in Scouting by holding its annual fall week- end camp at the camp grounds at Camp Samac. Under perfect weather conditions the Cubs fulfilled the requirements for the Observer Badge as well as requirements toward their Black & Tawny Stars. The boys weekend was filled with bird watching, animal tracking and tree i as well as games and campfire. Along with the regular leaders of Lloyd Greenough, Kim King, Ephrain & Cheryl Dufoe, and Gord Mercer, new leaders Chuck Mercier, Michael Coxon, 'Ailleen Hill mnd parent helper Mark" Howsam helped with. the weekend activities. On Sunday new Chums Andrew Drebit, Greg Hunter, Matthew Coxon, Jon Dufoe, Geof Simpson, Marshall Irvin, Michael Mercier and Devon Howsam were invested into the Cub Pack. Transfer Cubs Greg Manns, Andrew. Foster and David Low were presented with their crest and scarves and welcomed to 1st Port Perry. This year the Pack has thirty boys with ten leaders and will again meet Mondays at the Anglican Church and Tuesdays at the Kinsmen Hall.
