Defense was solid for the Angels as evidence by the low score and the team got a superb effort on the pitching mound from Jackie Dempster who tossed a five hitter at the Oshawa Both teams had. scoring chances, but often came away empty-handed. In the fifth inning Lairs singled and advanced on put-out before stealing third base. She scored on another infield out, but from that point on the Angels were able to shut the Mackies down. Nancy McConnell, with two "out, stroked a triple, then scored on an Ann Gordon single to tie the game at one each in the bottom of the fifth. Terry Childs got her second hit of the game, a double, but was left on base. But in the bottom of the 7th, Joyce Parkinson led off with a single. She was erased at second on a fielder's choice by Tracy Smith, but was moved to third on a single by McConnell. After Gordon flied out to centre field, Smith scored on the catch to give the Angels the run they needed for the victory. The team was short-staffed due to four players being away at school, but the girls were still ablg to come up with the victory. It was a great first season for the Angels, and the players, coaches and management wish to thank all the fans who came out to support the squad, as well as the sponsors who helped make it all possible. The team is already starting to look ahead to the 1993 season.
