The 18-year old Greenbank resident doesn't hesitate for an instant when asked what he wants to do with his life. He has his eyes set firmly on a career as a film actor or on stage as an illusionist (or both). "I want to be famous. I want to leave my mark," he told the Citizen in a recent interview. And so far, he's making all kinds of progress as an actor and as an illusionist. He's developing rapidly as a top illusionist (not a magician) and has landed some roles in TV Peter Loughran knows what he wants. (See story). "Right now, I'm waiting for a break in either acting or illusions. It doesn't matter which. I'll take either," he said. Two years ago, he was working magic shows at kids birthday parties. Since then he had worked on illusions, and has * taped a 10 minute spot on the TV show "Star Performance" in which he does an illusion called "The Zig Zag." « Peter got into the world of magic and illusions about eight years ago. Like most ten-year olds he was enthralled with magic, sleight of hand and started perfecting "simple tricks." He progressed to more difficult The Canadian Version of ... The "Zig Zag," for example, involves "cutting" a girl into three pieces with her hands, feet and torso still moving around. And then there is "The Metamorphasis." In this illusion, Peter is chained and sealed in a mail bag inside a wooden box that is pad-locked and checked out by a member of the audience. A four sided screen is set up around the trunk and as Peter's assistant counts 1-2, she pulls up a curtain. Peter yells 3, she drops the curtain. Peter is out of the box and the girl in a different costume is in the trunk. It all takes place in about three seconds, he says with a smile. When he's not working on these illusions, he's rushing off to Toronto to tape a segment of a TV show, or he's taking classes in drama at Port Perry High School. He wants to take his illusion show on the road this fall to Toronto, and perhaps early in the new year, "bring it home" for audiences in this area. He's looking at halls in Port Perry and Uxbridge. But eventually, he says confidently, he'll move to Los Angeles to really pursue his show business career.
