wp 26-- Bcugog Citizen -- Tuesday , October 6, 1992 Quilted jacket takes top honour at competition When Sarah Elliott decided to enter a quilt competition at the Ontario Agricultural Museum in Milton, it was "just for fun." Well, it turned out to be more than "just for fun," for this Port Perry quilter as her quilted jacket was awarded first prize by "viewer's choice." And it is easy to see why. Made from 100 per cent cotton, the open jacket is a combination of gorgeous hues from bright pink salmon patches on the front to teal and subtle mauves, blues and rusts. About 40 hours of work went into the jacket and the most time consuming aspect was selecting the fabrics and setting up the colour combinations. Mrs. Elliott is a member of the Port Perry Patchers Quilt Guild. The competition allowed one "entry in each class from Guilds throughout Ontario. Last year, Patchers Guild member Barb Carnegie won a first prize for her quilted jacket. Coming in November The Port Perry & Surrounding Areas 1992 - A quilter for the last ten years, Mrs. Eliott teaches as well. She said she has been doing more quilted clothing in the last few years. Is the jacket that took first place for sale? "Nope," she said with a smile, "Not a chance." Fifteen words. Five bucks.
