To the Editor: Why, ih this time of recession, lost jobs, financial restraints, increased stress and family problems, do people not support an effort to provide jobs for people, to help increase people's self worth, reduce stress and help-generate economy for the "Region? LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Extremely disappointed with lack of support for Market They have been plagued with restraints and complaints since the beginning. They are creating work for those who otherwise have no income and are unable to obtain work in this area. They have created a market that reeks of cleanliness, class and charisma; one in which the vendors can take pride. I pmseforring to the Port Perry The Country Market is Country Market and their efforts providing employment for not to open a business that will only the vendors, but also 8 te work and i the d of Port Perry who are economy in this area. employed in many areas of the Remembering UNICEF Continued from page 8 to have fallen off. Why not help revive it at our neighbourhood schools? Or put a Unicef box in our offices, schools, factories, restaurants, stores or banks during halloween week? Amounts of money that seem very small to Canadians can be literally life-saving to people in other parts of the world. People who go to halloween dances or parties could donate change for Unicef and probably not even miss it. Very small amounts of money can really go a long way- for example, $1.30 will buy enough Vitamin A to protect 30 toddlers against nutritionally- caused blindness for one year, while $500. will provide the basic educational and teaching materials * necessary for a classroom. Our pennies (and dimes, quarters, and loonies) can really add up and make a world of difference to a child! There are even more possible ways to raise money for Unicef. Throw a yard sale and donate the proceeds, keép a box around. the house for loose change, then donate it, or buy as presents at Christmas and birthdays the items awhilable in Unicef's gift and card catalogue. People who would like to know more about Unicef (or how to order boxes) are welcome to call me about (985-3225). Alittle bit of extra effort on our part each halloween could help make small miracles happen in parts of the world where the basic medical care-are only the stuff of dreams.
