The first five minutes were a bit scrambly as each team was feeling the other out. Port drew first blood when Gord Bentley blasted in a Jeff Jamieson pass back to the point to take an early lead. Sunderland knotted it at one on the power play when Jamie Trick found himself stranded behind the net. Sunderland pulled ghead early in the second after some strong work by their big forward number 66. Port was able to pull even Bantam B's run into a tough opponent shortly after on the powerplay when Matt Hobbs tucked one under the top shelf after some nifty work by Devon Blair and Greg Thompson. It was at this point that Sunderland got untracked and proceeded to score five unanswered goals to lead 7-2 midway through the third. Port managed to reply twice before the final bell in goals by Matt Hobbs from Thompson and Phillips and Matt Phillips closed .but the scoring on a fine individual effort.
