Hospital tightens night security Stugog Memaflal Hospital is taking steps to make sure the building is secure at night. That means that all doors including. the emergency entrance will be locked after: 10:00 PM. Connie Jamieson, manager of personnel services said last week that locking the emergency entrance is to protect the safety of staff and patients, and to make sure that people don't just "walk through the doors and wander around the hospital." While to date there have been no "incidents" of un-wanted persons entering the building, "we don't want to wait fora serious incident to happen," she said. With this change in policy it + will be the first time that the doors to the emergency entrance at the hospital have been locked at night. THE MN i 3 NN Ms. Jamieson said that pégple coming to the emergency department after 10:00 PM are advised to call ahead, if possible, and let staff know they are on their way. Tn the outer lobby of the entrance, visitors will find a red button that will summon staff in the hospital t@open the locked doors automatically: Staff will be able to communicaté with anyone in the outer or lobby as well. And the emergency entrance will be monitored by a surveillance camera to allow staff to see who is there. Ms. Jamieson said hospitals all over Ontario and especially in larger centres, have already taken similar steps to insure staff and patient safety by locking the buildings overnight.
