SHL teams back in action Sunday After a week laygoff last Sunday due to the Broomball Tournament, action resumed in the Scugog Hockey League with the cool weather inspiring the local players. Game 1 saw exciting action to begin the morning with the Harrison Fuel Blazers outlasting the Van World Sharks in a 6-4 contest. The teams traded the lead throughout the game but a Blazer tally in the third period insured the victory. For the Sharks it was Healy Beveridge Campbell and Fox as goal scorers Assisting were Beveridge with 2 and singles to Jackson, Healy, Fox and "Tate" Adam. Blazing the way for the Blazers were Kotarba Bill VanCamp, Harrison and Lane Sheehey, Davison and Lane had 2 assists each with the single to VanCamp. Oh yes, the winning goal was a "blinding shot" to the top corner by none other than Jim, "I can raise the puck" Beatty' The league may have to impose certain blood tests if this continues! Game 2 was an excellent game featuring strong goaltending by both Don Card and Troy Glazier as the Compton Comets held the league-leading Pineridge Phantoms to a 1-1 tie. Cardy did have a slight advantage after playing the first game for the Sharks. Everyone knows how he hates the warm-up so obviously he was ready to go in this fast moving game. For the Compton Comets it was Mark Jobb from Jim Duncan in the third period as a reply to the Pineridge Phantoms tally by Mr. "Vic" Brownell from Bridge and Weisflock in the second period. Game 3 saw an amazing comeback by the Fitzgerald's Clippers with three unanswered goals in the final period to tie Crandell's Gamblers 4-4. This game looked like a run-a-way in the early going as the Gamblers jumped out to a 3 goal lead However, as reported two weeks ago "Beware of those Aging Chippers." Scoring for the Gamblers were Milligan (2), Jeffery and Churchil. Assists went to Samis, Fowler, Evans and Forderer The Clipper surge was led by Ivan Geer (2) and singles to Lee Wilbur and "Rock * Owen. Ritchie Lefort counted 3 assists. "Rock™ Owen finished his 3 point day with 2 assists and a single was given to Larry Jackson. Bill Owen was back to his old form as he barged in from his familiar point position to tie the game with less than two minutes remaining. The final game of the day saw the Taylor Petro Can Fuel Aces defeat the J+D Hawks 3-1 and thus drop the Hawks to second place in the standings for the first time this year. The game featured end-to-end action with good passing and a lot of hustle by players on both teams. The Aces built up a three goal lead with markers by Moffatt, Pilkey and "Tan-Man" Little. Assists went to McIntyre, Thompson and Moffatt. Ace goaltender, John Moore had his bid for the shutout spoiled in the final period on a Hawk goal set up by Cowie and Curran. The league standing saw a number of changes this week. All teams are in the hunt, now that Deer Season is over, for first place honors be sure to catch the action next Sunday as those elusive Phantoms try to hold on to their one point lead!
