Scugog birders Scugog Shores Naturalist Club members were up bright and early Sunday moming for their first annual bird count in the Township. They spotted thirty-one different species of birds, Including a rare Coopers Hawk in Blackstock. ' First bird count finds 31s Scugog Shores Naturalist" hoi on wer its first ever "bird count" in the Township on Sunday and recorded 31 different species of birds, including a rare Cooppers Hawk. Ten members of the club were out on a perfectly gorgeous winter's day with bright sun, clear blue skies and the trees heavy with the record snowfall that hit the Township on Friday. Club president Ken Carmichael was delighted with the ber of ci species ife area north of Port tri with the ten Club members who were out counting in the field, the Club had another 15 persons phoning in their counts, said Mr. Carmichael. Here is a list of the 31 different species sighted in Scugog Township: starling, rock dove, chickadee, downy pileated woodpecker, white breasted nut-hatch, cardinal, red-breasted nut-hatch, blue recorded and sajd 855 birds were counted inside Scugog and another 161 outside the Township. That rare Coopers Hawk was spotted on Greensborough Drive in Blackstock by Bob and Liz Almack. And two other Hawks, a Sharp Shinned and a Red Tail were spotted by Muriel McMaster near the Nong jay, ning dove, gold finch, dark eyed junco, ruffed grouse, cedar wax-wing, red tailed hawk, sharp-shinned hawk, rough-legged hawk; coopers hawk, English sparrow, song sparrow, tree sparrow, crow, white throated sparrow, creeper, ring-billed gull, horned lark, red-winged blackbird. Snow buntings were sighted ' at Mt. Horab in Victoria County.
