Raiders defeat Port Juveniles for gold medals The Port Perry Juveniles came up a goal short in their bid to win their home tournament played Saturday Office Equipment gang had to settle for the silver medals after dropping a tough 2-1 decision in the final tq a rough and tumble Georgetown Raiders squad. The Key-Bar penalty killing had been superb all game, especially in the first period when the team took a series of minors that left them one or two men short. This was a chippy game with tempers flaring several times. The Port players were especially upset when Darryl Vander Ligt was slammed heavily into the boards without a penalty call. He had to be helped from the 'ice and eventually sent to hospital for , especially in the first period when the team had to kill numerous Port Perry opened the tournament with a convincing 4-1 victory over Barrie. They got one back late in the second by Tom Uzzell, and then tied the game in the third with goals from Dave Mackenzie and CHff Miller. But Key-Bar got the winner with 2:08 left in the thigd, and it was Empringham who pulled the trigger on a set up from Jason McBride. Kent Taylor assisted on that goal and then seconds later made a great shot from the blue line and with Kevin Gray's "tip", he was able to catch our second goal. ' Daryl Moase algo ptured an legs of the oppositions goalie after a nice sliding pass from Todd Parry and an assist went to Brad Morton as well on this play. Jon Jamieson and Matt Hobbs teamed up to score again for Port on a well executed pass by Jon. In the second period Matt Phillips got his first goal of the assist on this one. Port walked into the assists in the game. Our final match up was again against the team from Millbrook, but we weren't going to lose to them a second The Techstars came out with some fast hard hitting hockey and Millbrook was able to get on the scoreboard first with a soft shot between the legs of our goaltender Dylan Ferguson, but after that it was ours all the way. Matt Hobbs with the assists going to Gord Bentley and Jeff Jamieson. Brad Morton widened our lead 5-2 with a quick snap to the top corner of Millbrook's net. Todd Parry and Matt Hobbe assisted on Brad's goal. After a lot of sloppy work om our part, Millbrook closed the gap with one more goal, but before the end of the third period Kevin Gray scored for the "Stars" again with a great backhand shot on a "nifty Maneuver" by Matt Phillips. The Techstars won their first tournament and if it hadn't been for the strong steady work by all the forwards and +i 1 defensi some got us on the scoring trail with the first goal just hing a tiny opening between the net with Kevin Gray scoring our only goal and the assist from Brad Morton. We then faced off against a team from Deseronto and it was a totally different outcome from our first. Port came out on the winning end of a 3-0 game. Deseronto was no competition with their out skaters, but their goaltender was fantastic. We had 30 shots played excellent hockey with great defensive work being done by Trever Smith and Devon Blair. and the goalies shoulder. The assist came from Kevin Gray. A minute later Daryl Moase made a great shot between the play by Trevor Smith, Devon Blair, Gord Bentley and Kent Taylor, the outcome of. this day would have been different. Goodiwork boys!
