The newly opened office is located at 180 Mary Street and, the services will include patient assessment leading to either treatment or referral to an appropriate service. Pinewood Centre in Oshawa has been in operation for 26 years as a division of the Oshawa General Hospital. The Port Perry office will offer therapy programs for groups of up to 12, educational and self assessment for groups up to 20. There are also programs available for spouses living with a person who has substance abuse problems, for teens and for children under 12 years of age. Steve Chiasson is one of two counsellors working in the Port Perry office, and he said that while overall use of alcohol and drugs in the general population is declining, the number of cases of substance abuse continues to rise. Opening the office in Port Perry is a way to "bring the services closer to the population here," and will eliminate the need for transportation to the Pinewood Centre in central Oshawa, he said. Police nab teens after cab hi-jacked at gun-point Two teen-agers are facing numerous charges after being arrested Sunday evening at Myrtle Station on Highway 12. Several Durham Police cruisers were used to stop a taxi that had been hi-jacked at gun-point earlier that afternoon. .
