Blackstock takes first in Broomball League After going through all 20 games in the regular schedule, the final standing were decided this past weekend in the local broomball league. In the first game of the day, B&R Swamp rolled over Emmerson's Insurance by a total of 6-1. Dale Lown held the hot broom as he accounted for 3 goals and a single assist. Other goal scorers were Mike Mole, Ken Bryant, and Brian Robinson. Assists were picked up by Tim Ashbridge, Mike Mitchell, Brian Pomeroy, and Willie Edwards with a pair With B&R winning they forced Blackstock to win , or at least tie their game as the two were now deadlocked atop the standings. With Keith Tremblay allowing only the one goal there was also the added heat of Blackstock getting a shutout as both teams were duking it out for the goaltender's award. The Blackstock Brewers and the Framer's Gallery met next displaying their normal type of close game as they have all season with Blackstock emerging on top of a 1-0 score. With this win the Brewers earned top spot in the league for the first time after a 17 year try. Tom Wotten and John Binning earned the assists on Ron Short's goal. Rick McLean earned both the top goaltender's award and his ninth shutout of the season in this one. Prior to the last game it was still undecided who Blackstock and B&R were going to play as Woody's Auctions and Monsma Electric were still battling over third and fourth in the standings with Woody's ahead by two points. By the end of the regulation time it was determined that Woody's were to keep third as the team's were tied at 2 apiece. The overtime was ali Woody's as they came out on top 8-4 when the dust had cleared Charlie Dennis scored half the goals with all 4 coming in the overtime Jim Gregg, Larry Maarse, Neil Woodrow, and Rob Mason added singles each. Bruce Woodrow was the mmin setup man as he notched five assists through the affair, four in the overtime. Gene Woodrow added two more with singles going to Keith Young, Neil Woodrow, Gord Jones, and Jim Gregg. With Woody's representing Port Perry in the intermediate tier 1 division of this upcoming weekend's regional playdowns and Framer's in tier 2, there will be no play in Port. The playoffs will commence on Sunday, March 7 with B&R hosting Woody's at 4:00 p.m. followed at 6:00 by Blackstock playing host to Monsma. The Merchant Ladies team showed up for their second game of the playoffs short- handed and it showed as they lost 6-0 to the Rookies. This forces a third and deciding game in two weeks time at 2:30 p.m. in the other series the Sunderland Misfits bowed out to Courtice 2 games straight.
