To the Editor: I notice in the discussion about teaching our children abstinence, one very important word has been left out: self esteem. to I would like the parents out GARY RICHARD there to turn the TV off DAINARD, tonight, or to skip that meeting, and sit down together with penal and paper, and hst ten ways in which to build healthy self esteem in their children giving unconditional love, to speak up themselves in a time of crisis. Also, where there is plenty of affection allowed to be expressed in the home, there is less likelihood of the child seeking it elsewhere. J. Morris, Port Perry Our nation at the crossroads To the Editor Canada witnessed Prime Minister Mulroney at his best the other day- during his world market forces with the emphasis on wide open borders for trade I believe that this nation 1s at acceptance, trust and resignation speech. Can you think of any others? Building healthy self esteem in your children will enable them The Post Mulroney era has left Canada with the legacy of a country divided in many ways by the failure of Meech and the Charlottetown Accord; the controversial Free Trade Agreement, a huge national debt, massive employment and the hated GST. The worst aspect of our present situation is that Canadians are struggling to see any hope for the future and now realize that Canada has fundamentally changed for the worse under Tory Rule. Canadians should not feel relieved for long and be misled into thinking that the departure of "Brian" will end Canada's woes. Mr. Mulroney exemplifies the very essence of the Tory ideology of ruling. Great effort has been made by the Conservatives to downplay the direction Canada has been taken by them. Canada has become a nation ruled more on the basis of profits for multi- national companies and become more vulnerable to Conservative Party. Ask yourself, can Canadians take five more years of the kind of treatment dished out by the Conservatives or 1s 1t time to support a party which values "freedom and dignity for the individual?" The Liberal Party, in the past, adopted our Canadian Flag, Medicare nationwide, policies which protected CAnadian companies from foreign take-over negotiated fair trade, supported Marketing Boards, and progressive social policy. The Liberal Party has a past history of achievements which have been good for Canad. and Canadians! As a candidate for the Liberal nomination in Durham Riding, I strongly believe that good, effective change and hope for Canada's future will only return with the election of a Liberal government in Ottawa Glenn Malcolm, Nestleton (Mr. Malcolm is a candidate for the Liberal nomination in the federal nding of Durham) ... whether you're driving or flying, if you are leaving Ontario please be aware that OHIP will only cover a has taken up residence in -- minimum amount of any unexpected medical or Prince Albert i The bride and groom were Te hospital expense that you may encounter «Wl Po] Marlin Travel ¢ sells both : VOYAGEUR & ONTARIO BLUE CROSS MEDICAL INSURANCE Call us for full details and please ... cover yourself MARLIN TRAVEL 246 Queen Street, Port Perry 985-2268 . | For Information on placing your special event in the Citizen's Family Matters, just call our office at 985-6397.
