Manvers Tweens lose a close one 7-6 On Thursday March 4, the Cagone Skate Sharpening Tweens played host to Lindsay in this game #2 in their eleven game round robin play-off series. As the Home team came onto the ice, BOOM!! on came the Heavy Metal Music and the whole arena was filled with AC/DC The first four minutes of the game was played in the neutral zone as both defenses played nice ringette keeping the attackers off balance. Krista Cameron and Leanne Morgan took on the forechecking duties and did a good job of it to nullify any rush Lindsay got going. Manvers struck first, Ashley Notenboom (Boomer) took control at the Manvers blueline off the boards to Lisa Nesbit into the Lindsay zone to Jennifer Dingman who swooped in on the Lindsay goaltender and see-you-later! Manvers takes the lead 1-0 at the 13:03 mark./ Manvers got trapped im their own zone and Lindsay passed the ring: around looking for the perfect shot, and soon it was 1-1. At 6:05, Manvers was starting to put some pressure on Lindsay deep in the Lindsay zone, when Cricket Cameron took the ring at the blueline and with a nice pass over to Miranda Small in the corner out in front to Jaime Bethune who fires one deep into the Lindsay goal to go ahead 2-1. At 5:23 Lindsay scored while Manvers was playing shorthanded to tie the game at two all. Lindsay scored again at 3:05 to take the lead 3-2. With the period winding down Jennifer Dingman picked a Lindsay players pocket and came up with the ring and put a lovely pass onto Amanda Richmonds stick and she hit the (alley Cat) Alison Chapman in the slot and she blows one past the Lindsay goalie to tie the game at 3-3 at 1:59. Just nine clicks of the clock later, Lindsay scored again to regain the lead 4-3 to end the first period. The Rookie goalie for Manvers was not having one of her better games but was trying to hang in there anyway. Julie Kennedy, as usual, was busy forechecking, trying to force Lindsay into making fatal mistakes in their own zone. The Boomer had a few shots on goal and was making some nice passes to spedrhead an attack. At the 9:00 minute mark Lindsay put together a nice three way passing play to beat the Manvers goalie to increase their lead to 5-3. For the next five minutes, Manvers started to apply the pressure firing everything at the Lindsay goal but the kitchen sink. At 4:30 Alison stole the ring at centre ice up to Jaime Bethune at the Lindsay blueline and she unleashed a wicked shot from the blueline, and it btew past the Lindsay goalie to make it a one goal game again, 5-4 Less than a minute later Jaime Bethune came out of her own end and put a nice pass off the boards to Jennifer Dingman up to Alison Chapman who tucked it under the Lindsay goalie to tie the game up at 5-5 to complete a nice tick-tack-toe play. It only took Lindsay eight seconds to take the ring down the ice and score to regain the lead again 6-5. At 2:56 Krista Cameron found a loose ring in front of the Lindsay goal to tie the game at 6-6. Lindsay came roaring back at 2:25 and scored to take a 7-6 lead. With just over a minute left in the game, Lindsay started to play "catch me if you can" and rag the ring using up precious seconds. The Manvers Tweens tried hard to regain possession trying to tie the game up but it just wasn't in the cards as the horn sounded to end the game with Manvers taking it on the chin by a 7-6 score. Playing in goal for Manvers was Michele Branton. Honorable Mention for Good Hustle goes to Julie Kennedy and Ashley Notenboom (the Boomer) Honorable Mention for Good Defensive Effort goes to Leanne Morgan and Cricket Cameron. Out of the line-up was Kendra Clarke with a broken finger Hurry back Kendra the team misses you.
