See story. Millar Lights present Oliver The joys and sorrows of Dickens England are coming to the Port Perry stage as the Millar Lights present the acclaimed hit musical "Oliver" This will be the seventh full production by the Millar Lights, a group of 35 young people who have lit up the stage and delighted audiences of all ages with their superb work in such shows as "Guys and Dolls", "The King and I", and "Annie". "Oliver" will open April 23 at the Town Hall 1873 in Port Perry and run for nine shows The musical, written by Lionel Bart, follows the trials and tribulations of young Oliver as he moves from the sinister workhouse through the sometimes cruel streets of London with Fagin and his gang of young thieves When Oliver has a brush with the law and then falls under the care of a well-heeled benefactor, Fagin and the criminal Bill Sykes attempt to get Oliver back. The attempted kidnapping fails and costs Syke's girl Nancy, her life. It is a bitter-sweet story and the characters truly look like they stepped from the streets of 19th century London. Caitlin McCoy plays "Oliver" in her first lead role with the Millar Lights. Brad Goreski, a Millar Light veteran plays "Fagin" and Kingsley Malcolm, also a long time member of the group is "Bill Sykes". The role of "Nancy" is played by Elissa Blowe and Daniel Petronijevic is "the Artful Dodger" Janet Stevenson will direct the production. Janet also directed the Lights in "Guys and Dolls". Karen Burns is producing the show and production co-ordinator is Lynn Relf. Musical direction, as always is by Tom and Catherine Millar who founded this group five years ago and demand nothing but the highest quality of acting, singing and showmanship from these young people The Millar Lights will present nine performances with curtain at 8:00 p.m. on April 23,24,29 and 30; and May 1,6,7 and 8 There is also a matinee performance on May 1 at 2:00 p.m Tickets are on a reserved seating basis and are on sale at Irwin Smith Music in Port Perry or by calling 416-985-2635.
