SHL round robin down to last game With a brief winter blast, 8.H.L. action showed no hint of spring fever or "time change" blues. There was a little dressing room talk of golf and baseball but attention was on hockey and the final standings for championship Sunday. Game 1 saw the Compton Comets come back to defeat the Pineridge Phantoms 4-3 and thus grabbed a piece of first place. Glen Hudson and Mark Jobb had 2 goals each. Jody Peters with 2 assists and singles to Jobb, Hope, Dickson and Oxley rounded out the Comet attack. The Phantoms were led by Bill Bridge with 2 goals and 1 assist. Doug Brown completed the Phantom scoring with 1 assist. The Phantoms continue to look for their first playoff points with just one week in * the round robin remaining! Game 2 saw an exciting match between the Van World Sharks and the Crandell's Gamblers end in a 2-2 tie as the final goal was scored with just 9/10ths of a second left in the game. Gamblers had goals by Donovan Smith and Brian Samis. Assists went to Jeffrey Milligan, Bronson and "Forderer. The Shark attack had a first period goal by Bob Beveridge from "Tate" Adam. Just when it looked like the attack had fizzled, Rick Campbell scored the "last second" marker from Beveridge and "Baby Tate" Adam to capture the needed one point for the Sharks. Game 3 saw the Fitzgerald Clippers "cool off" those "Red Hot" Blazers with a 6-2 final score. Clippers had 3 point performances from Richie LeFort with 3 goals, Ken Smart with 2 goals and one assist and Bruce Gracie with 3 assists. Two point games were credited to Car] Fitzgerald with a goal and an assist, and "Roc" Owen with 2 assists. Single assists to Larry Jackson and Clarence Stephenson finished the Clipper attack to give them a share of first place with the Comets. The Blazers had goals by Rick "Legend" Sheehey and Willy Edwards. Doug Suppelsa had 2 assists with singles to "Atta- boy" Templeman and Paul VanCamp. The game got a little "fisty" towards the end and league vacations were handed out! Game 4 saw the J&D Hawks' bid for first place fall short, as * the Taylor Aces handed them a 4-2 setback. Aces jumped out to a 3 goal lead led by Wayne Taylor with 2 goals and 1 assist, Dwayne Bronson with 3 assists, Bart Wagar with a goal and Larry Pilkey with an assist. The Hawks came storming back on goals by Brian Cowie and "Bubba" McEachern. Mike McQuade had 2 assists and Bill VanCamp had a single. Just when it looked like the Hawks may tie the game, in the last minute, Larry Pilkey had an empty net "200 foot shot," to seal the Ace victory. Next week completes the final round play as teams jockey for positions in the 4 Championship games on April 18. Players are again reminded to have their registrations for the 93-94 season in to their team rep prior to April 18. Next weeks' game times are as follows: 8:00 a.m. Crandell's Gamblers vs Harrison Blazers 9:05 a.m. Pineridge Phantoms vs Taylor Aces 10:10 a.m. J&D Hawks ve Compton Comets 11:20 a.m, Fitzgerald Clippers ve Van World Sharks. Tykes wrap it up The Tyke hockey season has come to a close. Almost 100 young hockey players came out to learn the basic skills of hockey and skating and had fun doing it. Due to the fine volunteer coaches and assistants this was accomplished. This could not have happened if it was not for the sponsorship by Nuts About Chocolate, ValuMart, Kinsmen Club of Port Perry , Knights of Columbus, Brook's Feeds and David's Hair Styling. Port Perry Minor Hockey and the kids of the Tyke level say, "Thank-you" for your support and hope it continues. The final week of Tyke Hockey at the Scugog Arena consisted of: Advanced Tykes playing Wednesday March 31 at 5:00 p.m. All first year tykes playing Friday April 2 at 5:00 p.m. The final day of hockey was Saturday, April 3 with first year Tykes at 10:00 A.M. and Advanced Tykes at 11.00 A.M. on Saturday. On Saturday all plaques and banquet tickets were handed out after the games. All sweaters and manuals belonging to PPMH are to be returned to the convenor, Al Goreski. Again, thank-you to everyone involved, it has been a very successful season! Floor hockey The Maple Leafs met the Canadians in Junior Floor hockey action last week as the new third session got underway. Monday night belonged pretty much to the Canadiens as they took the game 65-1. Mark Morrison was star for the Canadiens, scoring a hat trick with Tyler Houthuys close behind with the double. For the Leafs, Emma Marshall had the lone marker. The teams would like to extend a warm welcome to all the new players who will add to the fun each Monday evening.
