wp" 34 -- Scugog Citizen --- Tu day, April 6, 1993 4 Atoms close at Buffalo The Atom A's travelled to Buffalo early Friday morning to wrap up their season in the Pepsi tournament. As is quite often the case there was a lot of Canadian content in this tournament and the first game was against a local team from Peterborongh. Once the boys got the kinks out of their legs they had little trouble handling their qpposition and won this one 4- 1 Mark Blakley started off the scoring on a nice effort from Chris Skerratt and Chris tourney into the second and it was becoming clear that both teams really wanted this game. Braden gave Port the lead again on a power play on a nice pass from behind the net by Brad, Jeff Ashton drew the other assist. Early in the third Oshawa scored to tie it up once more. Port Perry wasn't about to give in and they took the lead for good when Mark scored unassisted. One more from Chad, assists to Greg and Brad and the boys were on their way to the finals ther Osh team Fr Jones. Ryan McQuade popped one late in the first from Brett Clouthier and Murphy Irvine. Then two more in the second one from Greg Bruton with Brad Johnston and Nick (nine) Pelyk, and another from Brad, assists going to Greg and Aaron Chambers. A quick goal by Peterborough at the start of the third had the fans looking worried but that was it for the scoring. Brett picked up the MVP award. Next up was a team from Philadelphia. Port Perry scored early and often in this one on the way to a 12-0 win. All the players got involved in the scoring in this game. Goalie Mike MacLennan got the MVP award. The Oshawa Canadians were the next opponents and this was Ports best game of the tournament. After falling behind early in the first, the boys came back with two quick goals, one from Brad, with Chad Lance and Greg getting the helpers and another from Braden Tarbotton with Brett and Ryan getting the assist. Oshawa tied it up 2-2 going the Red Wings. An exciting game and a good game defensively with Dave Justynski and Aaron playing well. Jeff picked up the MVP award. After two periods however, Port was still in it and only down a goal, 1-0. The third started off well for Port when Greg scored from Brad and Chad to tie it. Oshawa however came back with three and the boys couldn't recover. One more goal by Jeff from Brad late in the game and make the final 4-2. Braden scooped the MVP award. Thanks to coaches Lee and Dex and to the managers Carol and Hilly Wilbur. Also thanks to the sponsors Malmont Farms who have been involved in Minor hockey in this area for a long time. And finally, thanks to all the players for making this an enjoyable season for the parents. You guys played an exciting brand of hockey and always came ready to play. Good luck to all of you on your future teams. PORT PERRY & DISTRICT MINOR SOFTBALL - TRYOUTS - N\ Lake Scugog Lumber defeated Laurentian Bank 2-1 for the Atom House League Championship on Saturday. Howey's rink had 43 points, thanks in no small part to the work of Alison who Is a former Canadian Ladies champion from Bayview in Toronto. Steve Foster finished runner up In this 8th annual event.
