wp" 6 -- Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, April 6, 1993 pra Two men honoured for contribution to agriculture Two area men were honoured at the Durham Region Federation of Agriculture's annual banquet Friday evening (April 2) held at the Blackstock Recreation Centre. Over 150 people attended to pay tribute to Merrill Van Camp and Howie Herrema. Don Drake, President of the DRFA presented Merrill Van Camp of Blackstock with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his valuable contribution to the Ontario Federation of Agriculture. For well over twenty years, Merrill has volunteered his time and dedication as the Provincial director for Durham East of the OFA. He retired from this position last year. Merrill, however, will be retaining a eeat on the Regional Federation of Agriculture executive. Another member, Howie Herrema, was honoured by Bob Flett, head of the Memorial Committee, for his involvement in the farming community. Over the years, Howie has served on many executive positions in the local 4-H and Junior Farmers clubs. A graduate of Ridgedale College of Agriculture and Technology in the Agricultural Production Management course, he has also served many offices of the Durham Region Farm Safety Association. Howie is currently the second vice-president of DRFA. - In addition to his extensive dairy operation in Uxbridge, he has diversified to cash cropping of hay, corn and soybeans and is practicing conservation tillage. Howie was thanked for lending his talents to the benefit of the farming and was pr t with the Lloyd Wilson Memorial Award. Keith Allin named to board of United Co-operatives Ont. Keith Allin, a long time member of the Durham County Farmers Co-operative has been elected to the board of directors for the United Co- operatives of Ontario (UCO) His election to the board took place at the UCO annual meeting in March and four others directors were elected at the same meeting. $2.00 OFF Any Reg. Born and raised in Newcastle Mr. Allin now resides in Toronto where attended university and received a master's degree in business administration. He has been a member of the local Soil and Crop Improvement Association as well as the local Pork Producers Marketing Board. Learn to reduce The Durham Region Works Department will be hosting a seminar on how to reduce industrial, commercial and institutional waste. The presentations will focus on recycling markets, waste audits in the workplace, procurement policies, food waste diversion, waste reduction in the construction reduction and recycling for small business and multi- tenant buildings.
