The grade seven student at Cawker School had been playing with his Pee Wee House League team mates and parents in a game to mark the end of the season when he collapsed on the players bench and was pronounced dead about an hour later at Community Hospital. The death of this youngster has touched this community and deeply shocked everyone who knew Brad and his parents, Ken and Sandra. And his death reached the start of the Toronto Maple Leafs-Detroit Red Wings playoff Monday evening when Hockey Night in Canada host * Ron McLean paid tribute to him on air just prior to the game, expressing his sadness and condolences to the Fraser family. Mr. McLean was notified of Brad's death by a Port Perry ) resident and the well known host of HNC was deeply moved when he heard the story. Brad was a devoted fan of Red Wing super star Steve Yzerman and he was buried wearing a Red Wing jersey with Yzerman's name and number 19 on the back. The sweater was a Christmas gift from his parents. A close family friend described Brad as always out- going, active, with a great personality, who loved sports of all kind, especially hockey. His room at home was filled with sports memorabilia and trophies of all kinds. Last summer, he played hardball and softball in Port Perry, and this past winter played organized hockey for the first time. He was thrilled when his team, Larocque Electric, won a tournament earlier this winter and then the League Consolation trophy a couple of weeks ago. Brad had suffered serious heart problems as an infant, problems that required surgery VOUTHL OKT GARDEN 985-4353 Just 2 Miles South of Port Perry on the Oshawa Rd. 12550 SIMCOE STREET "Tread softly, It may be, for this is holy ground. could we look with seeing eyes 1 This spot we stand on is paradise." - Christina Rossetti ( [2] Landscape Ontario to correct as he grew older. He had been given medical clearance to play non-contact hockey this past winter for the first time. The close family friend told the Citizen Monday night it was not Brad's past heart problems that led to his death. Rather it was.a virus that suddenly closed off his wind- pipe, something doctors say happens "one-in-a-million." The funeral service was Monday at Greenbank United Church. The family has requested that memorial donations in Brad's name be made to the Hospital for Sick Children in"Toronto.
