Young wrestler aiming for some lofty goals Jay Blain may be just 12 years old, but already he's set his sights on some pretty lofty goals. "Very good," he told the Citizen last week in an interview at his home near Epsom This is not bragging or a false sense of his abilities, merely a reflection of the positive attitude necessary in all competitive athletics. And well he should be going in to a national event with this kind of attitude. Jay hasn't been defeated in a match so far this year. In fact, he hasn't had a point scored against him A week ago at the Ontario championships, he won all three matches for a gold medal, one by a pin, and the other two by a "mercy" including the final . Jay said he was a bit nervous just before the final match because his opponent was bigger and stronger. But Jay relied on his own wrestling strengths--speed, Practice knowledge and his favourite hold--the head and arm throw to get the victory. Jay who weighs in at about 42 kg was first introduced to the sport by his older brother Ben who has had a positive influence on his development. "He taught me a lot of my moves," says Jay. Likewise his coaches at the XL Wrestling Club in Whitby where he works out twice a week.
