FRIDAY, MAY 14th Council starts to hand out development allocations Scugog Township council has started handing out sewer allocation for five develop t proposals in Port Perry and Prince Albert. Council agreed Monday that the Canterbury Commons project will get allocation for 185 units and allocation on the four other proposals will be made this coming week. i Canterbury Commons is a proposal for the former Brooks Farm just north of Port Perry. It calls for a golf course and 248 homes geared to retirement living. The suggested allocations were made Monday by Mayor Howard Hall who has been working closely with officials at Durham Region to come up with some kind of a formula to get developments moving on full services. "I think there is sprhething for everyone," said the Mayor. He suggested that Ribcor Developments be allocated capacity for 30 homes on Union Avenue; Van Edward Investments should get 70 units, as would Perryview, both of which are on the south side of Unien Avenue. And the proposed Rattleglen development on the west side of Old Simcoe Street near Durham Road 8 would get allocation for 80 units. These allocations add up to 435 units, far short of the 1142 units proposed in the five developments. The problem is with the sewage treatment capacity. The 43§ new units, plus reserve for in-filling and developments already approved, will put the * treatment facility at maximum A Reading Specialist (Phonics) An Elementary Teacher A Montessori Directress capacity. Studies are now underway to determine if the lagoon system can be enhanced with a mechanical sewage treatment facility. It will several months before the test results are known. Council agreed Monday to allocate the 185'"units to Canterbury Commons because the development company would have pulled out and put the land up for sale this week. One developer, Ribcor, is unhappy with thé allocation proposal and Ribcor officials plan to attend next Monday's meeting to tell councillors why they are not happy. In handing out the allocations in this "sewer sweepstakes," council is going to set a time limit in which developers must start building new homes. Mayor Hall suggested three years after the development plan has been registered. If the development is not progressing, the crucial sewage allocation would be withdrawn. * Bingo at the Nestieton Community Centre 7:30 PM. Call 986-5503.
