Last week it was a road win in Newmarket and a home field beauty-of-a-game win as well. On a cold May 17, in Newmarket our lads endured for a 12-9 victory. Some defensive lapses on fly-balls and too many walks was overshadowed by key strikeouts and aggressive base- running to steal our victory. Pitchers Tim Jones and Mike LeFort combined for just 3 hits while notching 12 strikeouts for Port Perry. Mike also belted a solo homer in the thipd to help in the win. Offensively Matt Clayton slammed a double toright field while Matt Skerfatt, Mike Wiseman, Mike Milligan and Tith chipped in with singles. Mike Koury scored two runs after free passes and Jeff Kane also walked twice. Fans were treated to a superb Fastball display in Port Perry on May 19, as the Vaughan pitcher zoomed his pitches in for 15 strikeouts. In a display of intense concentration on defense, however, our players gave no ground and our pitchers and catcher Matt Skerratt guarded home plate skillfully in tagging out 4 runners at home plate! Other good defensive plays were by Jeff at first on a hard line drive and by Tim (from shortstop) on two hard-hit balls. Because of excellent pitching on the Heating team, Perfect Heating left Pineridge scoreless. Perfect Heating had Travis Howell hit 8 for 3 which included a home run, Mike Phoenix scored 2 doubles and a single and also made some awesome catches on the infield. Ben Frith, Jason Cooper and Paul Chang all hit 3 for 3. Pineredge first baseman Adam Murphy, made some spectacular catches including all 3 outs in the fourth inning.
