Merchants win 2-1 This past week, Port Merch game striking out 20 Merch split two close games with a marked improvement in the competitiveness of their play. On Tuesday evening, the Oshawa Weasels visited Port Perry. A close pitching duel between -Coutu and Jeff Card of the Merchants ended in a 2-1 final score for the home side. The Weasels scored in the fourth and the game remained 1-0 until the seventh inning when Laird and McBride reached base on walks, and were moved into scoring position by Empringham. With two out and two strikes, Smith was able to hit a double past the surprised third baseman to secure the first win of the year for the Merchants in the Oshawa Men's League. Jeff Card pitched a strong game, striking out 8, no walks, 6 hits and only one earned run. On Thursday evening, Port made the trek to Greenbank for a game against the Gamblers.
