Paulmac scored 6 runs oh 7 hits to make the score 11- 3 Again Re/Max were unable to score in the 6th, and Paulmac scored 3 more runs on b hits to make the score 14-3. Two of the best fastball clubs on either side of the border will square off that evening for an exhibition double header on Port Perry's North Diamond. The awa Hornets will meet their Sioux City, Iowa, Soos in what has all the promise of a superb example of how fastball should be played, And Port Perry Minor Softball will share in the net proceeds from this double- header, said president Dave Kay at a press conference last week held at Pineridge Sports. The Hornets. are Jast year's International Softball Congress (ISC) champs and won a berth in the World Tournament this August in Wisconsin. The Sbos are the Iowa State champs and over the last two years have run an amazing 161-55 won-loss record. Minor Softball past president Wayne Venning said last week the double-header exhibition game for Port Perry was first discussed with Hornet club president Wayne Allen and Manager Bill Rourke earlier this spring. The Soos are in Canada that week to compete in a world . calibre tournament in Perth, Ont. and are using the exhibition games as a tune-up for that competition. ' On the evening of, July 14, . Water Street from Mary to Casimir will be blocked off for extra bleachers. Tickets are reasonably priced $3 for adults, $5 for family with any youngster from Minor Softball wearing a team jersey admitted free. The Hornets are led by the ace of their pitching staff Brad Baker who has much international experience in the United States and New Zealand. Baker attended last week's press conference at Pineridge Sports, along with hard hitting first baseman Dave Hoffman, a former member of Canada's national fastball team. When asked what kids of batting power the Soos would bring to the plate, Baker smiled and said the entire line- up. But he singled New Zealand native Mike Nichols, one of the most feared power hitters in the game today. The Soos, also have New Zealander Mike Gaiger as a pitcher. He stands 6' 3", weighs 226 pounds and throws the balls as hard as anybody. Mr. Kay and Mr. Venning both said this exhibition will be a great boost for Minor Softball in the community. And the event has the full support of Scugog Township council. "We are totally backing this venture," said Ward 2 rep Marilyn: Pearce, who also chairs the parks and recreation committee. "It is a great idea. And it's so important to be able to show kids and adults this calibre of fastball. We (Township) will do whatever we can to assist," she ssaid. The first game in this double- header will get underway at 7:30 PM July 14 and 'the second game will follow immediately. The double header will give fans a chance to see the entire pitching staff from both clubs and all the players on each roster. Souvenirs from both the Hornets and the Soos will be on sale that evening as well as special caps for this special occasion.
