Last Monday night at Durham fields the Greenbank squad was hitting on all cylinders as they thumped Oshawa Double 'B' by a 10-0 score. Mark Goreski and Jim Chilvers scattered five Oshawa hits over the game to record the shutout. Trevor Till and Mike Giroux had three hits each to lead the Gambler attack: with Don Beaton and Paul Goreski each having a pair. Beaton and Chilvers each 'had a home run during the sixteen hit Greenbank batting spree, Thursday night in Greenbank Park Mark Goreski and Jim Chilvers again combined their efforts to win a four point game from the Bowmanville Wolves » which kept the Gamblers in a three way tie for top spot in Oshawa City League play. They share the lead with Oshawa O'Tooles and the Oshawa Waltzing Weasels. Leading the way for the Greenbank club were Pete Oosterholt, Mike Giroux and Don Beaton who each belted a homes run with Bill Buys picking up a pair of safeties. Ken Goreski and Don Phinney came on as a battery to record the final three outs in the 7-0 Gambler victory. 'At the Apnual Greater Niagara.Falls Tournament on the weekend the team "sweated" their way to the main event semi final before bowing out to Burlington. This was a tournament that Greenbank was quite capabl of winning but after two strong wins they came up flat and went down to the Burlington squad. Two years ago in this tourney Greenbank were eliminated by a tough team from Palermo and who should they meet in game one but the same gang and once again they battled down to the wire (extra innings) before Greenbank finally pulled it out in a tight , 6-5 decision. Mike Giroux had three hits for the Gamblers with Don Beaton and Pete Oosterholt connecting for home runs. Steve Durham had a pair of Greenbank hits with Baker connecting for a key triple with the bases loaded. Mark Goreski and Jim Chilvers shared the mound duties. Game two saw Greenbank face the Toronto Aces and pitcher Tom Berube and in this game Jim Chilvers bested Berube. as the Gamblers dropped the Aces by a 5-2 score. Chilvers hung tough in 'the game a® he had ten strikeouts but the Toronto team .also had ten hits during the game and Chilvers pitched out of a number of jams. Greenbank picked up eight hits including a Steve Durham home run and a Bill Buys triple. But the tournament came to a close for the Gamblers when they dropped a 4-1 decision to Burlington in the "A" semi final. Both teams collected seven hits in the game but Burlington broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning when they bunched. three of their seven hits to go along with a base on balls. i This game was the Gamblers weakest effart of the season and Burlington deserved the win to the "A" final. This week the Gamblers play Oshawa O'Tooles on Monday night at Durham Fields and host the Oshawa Weasels at Greenbank Park at 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Citizen ads work for you 985-6397 Pex AUTO SALES LTD.
