In thig week of fastball action in the York-Durham league Port Perry's Mite rep team split their games with a 12-9 win on the road at Newmarket and a 17-3 loss at home to Willowdale who may be the toughest team in the league right now. Simcoe 'A' Champs For the second time in as many weeks the Port Perry Logon pre travelled to & tournament to return home as the 'A champs. This time they did it in the town of Simcoe on Saturday, In the first game they played, the team went up against Carlisle and came away with an 8-1 victory. Chris Jones and Mark Richardson shared the pitching duties going three innings each and getting five strikeouts apiece while giving up just one hit. Jones also went 2 for 3 at the plate, as did Ryan McQuade with all four hits being singles. Dalton laid down two nice bunts for a single and a sacrifice as well as lashing out an additional hit. Game two was against Kitchener whom the team hadnt seen before, and it wasn't known how they would do. Much to the delight of the crowd which has so faithfully followed this team so far the boys did not let them down as they recorded another 8-1 win. The two aces on the mound again performed well striking out woven and allowing two hits this* time. Port knew they had to dig in if they wanted to event the score and played excellent as they put « 50 shutout in the books. Jones went the distance notching 11 strikeouts while allowing two singles and awarding no walks. He also went 2 for 3 at the plate helping the team out on both ides of the coin Mark Heffern made a great catch out in right as he pulled one off the top of his shoe laces on the very first play of the game. Chris Jones got top pitcher as he worked 14 innings giving up one run on three hits and striking out 21. Ryan McQuade received tournament MVP as he hit 667 and made some fine defensive plays &t the short stop position The team's record to date in tournament and league play consists of 21 wins, 5 losses, and have outscored Lhe opposition 214-68.
