» (3 4 = 10 -- Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, August 10, 1993 = Obituary - Dr. E. (Ted) M. Culp, of Port Per An anesthesiologist at the Oshawa General Hospital for the past thirty-six years, Dr. E. M. Culp passed away on Sunday June 27, 1993 while vacationing in Dawson City, Yukon. Ted was born Edward Moyer p on September 12, 1930 in lang Station, Ontario to te Ernest and Grace Culp. He was raised on a large family farm on the shores of Lake Ontario, surrounded with a rich family heritage which descended from the United Empire Loyalists who emigrated to the Vineland area (originally known as "The Twenty," twenty miles from the Niagara River) durj American/English wel. the Following graduation from Beamsville High School, as a hard working gifted student with an innate talent for mathematics and a penchant for details, Ted pursued his education at the University of Toronto, graduating from Medical School in 1954. He then established a private and commitment to the medical profession at the Oshawa General Hospital for the next 36 years serving both ap a member and as chairman of several medical committees - three times as Chief of the Department of Anaesthesia, as Chief of the Medical Staff and as member of the Medical "n ctice with a medical school colleague in Brampton, Ontario. In 1956 he married his first wife, Maureen with whom he had three children: Laurie, Michael and Christopher. In July, 1957 Ted relocated to Oshawa and joined the staff of the Oshawa General Hospital, Department of General Practice with Anaesthesia Privileges. He continued his dedi tion Ted's character and passionate qualities also played a large role in his personal life. On May 12, 1989 Ted married Jeanne (Williams-Jackman) and started a new life in Port Perry. Commitment, dedication, responsibility, service and music were important words for Ted. Knight Public School and Brock District High ember of he played the violin in the school orchestra, at university he was president of Hart House and sang in the Hart House Glee Club and played for six years in the Daffodils Medical Review; Ted played bass violin in a swing band; sang bass in a Barbershop Quartet and sang in a variety of groups - the Oshawa Choral Society; County Town Singers, Sounds Great, Scugog Choral Society and the Port Perry United Church Choir, to mention a few. He was a strong supporter of the Oshawa Green Gael Lacrosse Teams, acting as their doctor. On July 1, 1990 Ted became a life member in the Canadian Medical Protective Association; he was a member of the Port Perry United Church serving as . an elder and choir member, and was a board member of the Town Hall 1873. Travel was another of Ted's goals and he explored each of the continents during his lifetime. There were few places not yet "pinned down" on his globe Family was "also "ery important to Ted - he opened his heart and his home to all family members and gave each person the benefit of the doubt through life's challenging times and his heartful generosity whenever and wherever needed. . Ted's approach towards life was "I'm not afraid of dying, Just afraid of not having lived." Ted "died living." Ted was a wonderful, loving, sometimes "quirky," always caring husband, father, grandfather, friend and colleague.
