24 -- Se Citizen -- November 3, 1993 Juveniles can win in when they stick to hockey Thursday night, Port Perry Juveniles hosted Uxbridge in a home game. This was their second meeting of the year, and Uxbridge had a score to settle, after losing the first battle 7-3. Greg Fitzgerald opened the scoring for Port at the 9:00 mark of the second period, with assists going to Ridgeway and Desaultels. By the end of the second period, Uxbridge took the lead 2- 1 with goals from Dave Leming and Barklee Perry. Assists went to Zeller, Pegg, and Lunney. Port started to play better in _ the third to overcome the one- goal deficit and regain the'lead. Steve Stiled netted both goals and Leask, McEnaney, Fitzgerald; and Card drew assists, Before Port Could run the time off the clock, Uxbridge tied the game up for good with Ferguson and Lunney setting up Shane Pegg. - The game ended 3-3. In this chippy affair both teams managed twenty minutes each in penalties, and combining for three game misconducts; a result of very tight officiating. On Oct. 21, of last week, the Key-Bar Juveniles hosted Belleville. Port was coming off a great 2-0 record. Belleville was determined to bring Pojt's short streak to an abrupt end. By the end of the third period, that is just what they did - defeating Port 7-5. Port's goals went to: Jeff Card (2), Ryan Ridgeway, Darrell Vanderligt, and Sean McEnaney. Ridgeway, Card (2), Desaultels (2), Vanderligt (2), McEnaney, and Parry contributed with assists. Less than a week later Port Perry travelled to Omemee looking to make up for their disappointing loss to Belleville. In a game filled with fighting, cheap-shots, dirty checks, and poor refereeing, both teams decided to do everything else other then play hockey. Deservedly, Port was handed their second logs in as many games; 9-5. The final two goals were scored while Port had their goalie pulled. The slight glimmer of offence resulted in five less- than-pretty goals from Sean McEnaney, Ryan Ridgeway, and Darrell Vanderligt (hatrick). Assists went to Parry, McEnaney, Ridgeway, Desaultels, Garvock and Wylie. This game could have easily turned out in'Port's favour with a little more sensible hockey. It was a sad performance from a bunch of talented players - team that has an honest chance at making it to the All Ontario Finals. The lead went to two after Shona found Lisa Bonser inside the extended play line. Lisa cut around the defence and lifted a quick shot into the short side. Cara VanderSlagt increased the lead to three completing an excellent passing play started by Natasha, centred by Shona which caught the Mississauga defence up ice, Port seemed to be on the way to domination when with just nine seconds left in the opening period, the visitors hit the score board. For much of the second period the play was up and down the ice with neither side gaining an edge. Again with the IGA team short handed Mississauga found the range to narrow the . Natasha sent the ring up the middle to Shona. The opposition defence was expecting Shona to pick up the ring but she was ~ unable to reach the pass, It carried past everyone to Dana Hooker who had broken to the net. Dana promptly snapped an excellent wrist shot into the net to return Port's two goal lead. Not to be denied, Mississauga scrambled back into the game with Port in the penalty box. With 3:11 to play Port was clinging to a narrow. 4-3 lead. The play went back and forth for the remainder of the game with the visitors desperately trying to pull their goalie. Port had one opportunity to} put the game on ice but the ring | slipped by the empty net. In the dying seconds of the game Katie Senyk, again spectacular in net, kicked out her left pad to secure the victory for the IGA squad. An excellent game by all.
