26 -- Citizen -- => November 9, 1993 Vg Pee Wee B's take Oshawa by close score On November 6, the Scugog Overhead Doors Pee Wee "B" Club ance again played host to another Oshawa team from the Elite Little NHL. This time is was the Canadiens' turn to come to Port Perry to take on the Doorsmen. On October 80, the Little NHL Blackhawks were sent packing by a score of 8-2, As expected it did not take these »two fine teams long to get right at it. Port came out playing their usual 'aggressive style. Both goalies were tested early, only to send the other team away shaking their heads in disbelief. Oshawa had the edge in the play in the opening period, but the Port Perry defence was doing a good job around their own net, . Brad Johnston, Deryk Campbell and Adam Bryne were giving the Canadiens fits » with their tenacious forechecking. Once again Adam Hobbs was handing out some heavy checks along the boards and making the Oshawa goalie awful nervous with his wicked slapshot. Port Perry lit up the scoreboard first at the 7:53 mafk when they had Oshawa hemmed zone and Jeff Neal made a nice pass to Brad Johnston at the right of the Oshawa net, in the slot to Deryk Campbell who slammed it through hegvy traffic past the busy Oshawa goalie to take the early lead 1-0. The Oshawa goalie had to be good to keep David Gainey off the scoresheet as he let two nice shots go from close ranige only to be turned away empty-handed. Jeff Neal and Ryan McQuade did a nice job in killing all three of Port Perry's pepalties in the first period, There wasn't anymore scoring in the opening period as the horn sounded with Port out'in front 1-0 . Oshawa wasn't about to go home yet as they took the play right to Port Perry. Oshawa was firing a «lot of rubber towards the Port Perry net but it wasn't making much of an impression on this fine Port Perry team. Finally Oshawa tied the game when they Eo) Jim Higham, In A Rink Somewhere By Jin Mughson, Bportecester "The Sports Network When Joe Carter's shot heard round the Great White North gave Toronto another World Series championship, the hockey season officially began Oh, teams had been playing for a few weeks but once the baseball bash was over and Todd Stottlemyre had offered to kiss and make up with the mayor of Philadelphia, we all had time to turn our attention 10 hockey - one of the few redeeming qualities of Canadian winter. So now that we're watching slapshots, not shiders, it's time to catch up on a few things pertaining to the puck You've probably noticed the NHL's new look. Gone are those tough-to-remember division hames like Norris and Smythe. The new NHL alignment is simply geographic Toronto in the east is now in the Central and Pittsburgh, to the southwest of Toronto, is now in the Northeast They sure know how to make it easy for us, dont they? In Detroit, many of the Wings are unhappy with tough new coach Scotty B Seems he's g a good deal more work from his charges. Detroit has the best owner in sports (Mike lich). Their building is always full. They travel little and when they do, they wing it on a private jot and have their own private lounge to gather in beforehand The Wings haven't won the cup since 1955 and the best coach in hockey Is trying to remedy that. Perhaps ail the malcontents would welcome a trade to Hartford or Edmonton. The Oilers, by the way, may not be in Edmonton long. Unless a new rink deal is secured, Peter Pocklington is heading for America with his team in tow. While fans and landlords are reluctant to cut Peter Puck any slack, they seem to be overlooking one poignant fact: if the Oilers move, there will never be another NHL franchise in Edmonton. At a price of $60 million, do they think new investors will even glance at a small market in northern Alberta? Perhaps winter weather will 'help cooler heads realize they better not let a good thing go? "In the far east, meantime, the Jays passed the baton to the Leafs Nc! long ago they looked like they'd never win again. Oshawa came right back trying to get the equalizer but the stubborn Port Perry team dug in and wouldn't let it happen even though they were getting outshot. As the period was winding down, both teams were playing nice hockey. With Oshawa on the power play, they got one back with only 7 seconds left on the clock to tie the game at 2-2 The third period got underway with Port 'doing some nice forechecking causing Oshawa to make some untimely turnovers giving Port some pretty nice scoring chances. Justin Sheehey handed out a couple of stiff checks along with Adam Hobbs causing Oshawa to shy away from their game plan from time to time Qshawa wasn't abot to load up the bus and go home yet as they kept on coming trying to take the lead . At 12:14 Deryk Campbell fired the puck off the boards to Adam Brain who put a nice pass onto Adam Hobbs' stick as he split the Oshawa defence and was in all alone on the Oshawa goalie only to be denied again. At 10:16 Chris Jones lugged the puck out of the Port zone and hit Scott Sanderson at centre ice with a perfect pass. Scott did some nice stiekhandling, e Oshawa met, in" went aroupd three Oshawa players and tucked it neatly behind the surprised Oshawa goaltender to give Port a 3-2 lead.
