Lo MoJacks rebound to thump Bruins 6- 1 Sunday night at the Scugog Arena 'staked the Port Perry MoJacks to a convincing 6-1 victory gver League leading Us Bruins. MoJacks held the Bruins to just 22 shots on goal and the only puck that got past Rick Hutchinson was a sharp angle. fluke that slipped between his pads to make the score 4-1. Other than that, Hutchinson. was rock solid and really deserved to come away with the shut-out. MoJacks spread their scoring among five different players and this was quite a contrast from last Thursday night when they couldn't do anything right around the cage in losing 3-1 to _ the Bowmanville Eagles. Todd Smart got MoJacks going against the Bruins early in the first when he banged home a rebound as Jeremy Ross and Gavin Cochrane got the assists. Ian Titterton made it 2-0 with a long rush down the right side. He cut in front of Jeff Reid and slid the puck. under the Bruin keeper. Duane Empringham, who had a strong game along the blue line, drew the lone assist. Jason Cochrane got his first of two in the second period when he out-raced Reid in the Bruin zone, collected the free puck and snapped it high under the cross bar. Shannon Todd and Brad Moase drew the assists. Early in the third, MoJacks took a commanding 4-0 lead when Steve Laird put one up high on the power play with help from G.Cochrane and captain Clair Cornish. The lone Bruin goal came off , the stick of Steve Brown at 5:56 of the third when he snaked one in through a crowd in front of Hutchinson. . But the MoJacks bounced right back a minute later to take away any Bruin momentum as Shannon Todd slapped in a rebound on the power play. Cornish drew the assist. For Todd, the goal was a big one as he had been foiled all game on numerous good chances, _ The final marker late in the game came as the MoJacks were killing: a penalty. Jason A strong defensive - effort ~ Cochrane took a short pass in his own zone from Todd Dennis, then went "coast to coast" showing. a fine burst of speed. He broke in alone to beat Reid cleanly on a great individual effort. MoJacks were full marks for the two, points over the Bruins, but it was not the same story when they met the high flying Bowmanville Eagles. SHOOTERS SNAKE BIT Last Thursday night at the Scugog Arena the MoJacks seemed to be "snake bit" every time they got near Barry Crawford in the Eagle net. The result was a 3-1 loss at the hands of the Eagles and a missed chance tp over-take them in the league standings. MoJacks had. all kinds of trouble deep in the Eagle zone, either firing the puck wide of the net or into the pads of Crawford. After a rather lethargic first period on the part of both teams, MoJacks took a 1-0 lead early in the second when Steve Laird slapped in a rebound from the side of the net with Duane Empringham and Kevin McDonald getting the assists. Bpgle Todd Canning put his team ahead for good with a pair oft goals just past the mid-point of the period, the first on a power play with a high shot on Rick Hutchinson, and the second off a slap shot from 20 feet out that squibbed through the pads. Both = Hutchinson and Crawford were called upon to make numerous tough stops in the third period as the tempo of the game picked up considerably. Eagles got the insurance marker at 8:20 of the third when David Watt moved from the corner to the side of the MoJack cage and flipped home a back- hand. MoJacks had a great chance to get back in the game late in the period when Eagles where two men short for a full two minutes. They swarmed around in the Eagle zone, parked big defenseman Kevin McDonald right in'front of Crawford, but were not able to get the puck into the cage. Shannon Todd, Keith Leslie 'and Steve Laird all had good _ scoring chances on this power play. MoJack forward Jason Cochrane and Eagle defenseman Drew Allenby dropped the gloves at centre ice in a short but spirited scrap. Cochrane got in the last punch, knocking Allenby to the matt before the officials broke things up. MoJack leading scorer Clair - Cornish was out of the line-up due to the flu, and his ability to put the puck in the net was missed. SLAPSHOTS: It was not a great weekend for the Uxbridge Bruins as they were damped 7-3 Friday night by the Lakefield Chiefs before getting stoned by the MoJacks on Sunday evening. Likewise the Little Britain Merchants who were defeated 6- 4 by Lakefield on home ice and were thumped 6-2 Sunday night in Bowmanville by the surging Eagles who are taking a real run at first place Uxbridge.
