And her sister Kathy Lampa of Whitby will be the nor. felt very helpless seeing Lori go through so much," Kathy said in an interview with the Citizen over the weekend as she visited Lori at home on Scugog Island. "Im very grateful to be able to help her lead a normal life." Lori was born with one" idney and has been prone to infeftions all her life. Just over a year-ago, her kidney failed and she has been on dialysis three times weekly at Oshawa General Hospital ever since. Extensivg testing of Lori and Kathy started this summer to determine if they were a "good match" for a transplant. That "match" turned out to be virtually 100 per cent, including blood types, and their doctors in Toronto say the transplant has a HALENDA'S FRESHNESS ... QUALITY ... SAVINGS ... ALWAYS! Halenda's 95 per cent chance of success. Going into the surgery in just a few weeks, the sisters said they are extremely grateful for the total support from their families. Of course, the fact that kidney transplants are medically possible and fairly common these days is a result of research through the Kidney Foundation of Canada. And the Foundation this month is kicking off a unique fund- raising drive. The Foundation is looking for any old vehicle (car, truck) boats, even motorcycles and campers. "We will accept any vehicle in any condition. They can be in perfect running shape or not running at all," explained Karen Jeffrey, spokesperson for this Kidney Car Program.
