Matt McGarry coined his first for the day after ' receiving an on-the-mark pass form Gerrard Timmers. It was Pineridge Sports versus the Sutton Atoms for the second game. In this low scoring contest Shona Moase thought she had put Port in the lead but the referee, who was alone, did not make the call, Not to be dismayed Shona slid a pass from Cara Vander Slagt across the crease to Dana Hooker who made sure burying one in the back of the net. Lisa Bonser opened a two goal . lead when she completed a play started by Dana centred by Lynda Payne midway through .. the second period In a very evenly matched contest it was a matter of time before Markham were able to find a flaw in the defense of their hosts. It was probably the only mistake made defensively. With only five minutes to play the 'score was 2-1 Again it was the ability of the home team to withstand the pressure of the visitors. The IGA squad maintained control to the end of the game as Dana took a serious hit to end the game which could have sent her to hospital. A very satisfying 2-1 win sent Port to the Christmas break with aspirations of much better things in '94. The New Year started against the league leaders, Pickering. Always a rough and tumble affair this contest proved to be no different, Shona opened the scoring after serving a penalty assessed just 20 seconds into the game with the assist going to Lisa. The penalties continued, however, with seven in the first period alone, The result was a 5- 1 Pickering lead before the IGA girls gathered themselves. | After the slow start two. by Cara and one by Lisa t the home team within one and the momentum had shifted in this second period.
