Logi On December 19 the Legionaires travelled to ' Peterborough for their second meeting of the year, The first game ended in a tie. When we arrived we were told that the Peterborough team had a record of 30 wins, 0 losses and 5 ties. That was all the boys needed to hear. Port scored the only goal of the first period, a Scott Jef boomer, unassisted. In the second period Port took a 3- 0 leall. Derek Tindall with helper$ from Adam Hobbs and AdamgJones and then on a powerplay, Casey vanSchagen from Adam J. and Derek. Early jn the third, Adam H. made i% 4-0 with assists to Adam J end Seth Gray. Late in the'peridd Peterborough tried to mount a comeback as they scored two quick goals but Adam J., picking up a loose puck created by Jon Froats . forechecking, found the empty net for a final 5-2 win. In Port's-first game Ney met the Cedarhill team from Scarborough. Laurentian Bank Atoms enjoy Orono tournament The Port Perry Laurentian Bank atom team recently competed in the Orono Block Parent Tournament. It was an exciting, nail-biting experi of Sean Williams and Jason Rédman was great. Excellent defensive work by Matthew Smart and Matthew Frazer kept the opposition scoreless through to the third period. Late in the third the Orotio team netted a goal, and then kept the pressure on. The Kinsmen opened the scoring early in the first period, and only the excellent goaltending of the Port Perry goalie John Barton kept the Kinsmen in check. Port Perry came back in the second with a goal by Eric Bird assisted by Tom MacArthur and Clayton Dales. With the score tied up, the pressure on Port's defence team though, as the Kimi squad scored on an excellent break, putting it in the top corner. With just over a minute to go the Bowmadville team was penalized fofrobghing and Port pulled its goalie to try for the equalizer. However, luck was just not with them as a lucky shot went the length of the ice to score on Port's empty net. This loss put Port in the "B* Championship, held on Wednesday. The third game of the another combination by Tom MacArthur and Eric Bird. After Ajax netted another... Port came back with a nice goal on a shot from the point by Joseph Farquharson, set up by Gordie Kilner. Ryan Kehoe and Raymond Seager provided some excellent forechecking to keep the opposition under control, with excellent defensive work by Ryan Woods. We didn't play with any kick, but still managed to get the win. Scott Heffern got us started unloading his cannon from the slot. Gray and Hobbs picked up the assists. Hobbs then decided to put'er home himself after a great 'passing play between himself, Jason Logan and the guy who started the entire play, Kevin the great Gray. That was it for scoring in the first. Mike Morden slid our third goal just 27 seconds into the second 'period. The passes, this time, came from T.C.Chambers and Jason Logan. Great play! Jason Logdn then picked up his third paint of the game assisted by Timothy Fitzpatrick and Colin Laird. Adam Hunter then skated over the blueline, and smoked the puck. Top Corner! Assists went to Scott Heffern and Rob Murphy. With ten seconds left and the Stouffville net empty, Derek * put the puck in, assisted by Seth and Jon. Final score 3-0 for Port, The third, and hardest game of the day was against Peterborough for the A Sei Ledionai p. The Leg had beat them on their ice on Sunday. Could they do it again? This game proved to be end to end hockey with lots of hard hitting. Halfway through the first period Derek wrapped the puck around and in behind the Peterborough netminder, assisted by Jon and Seth. At 5:56 in the second Peterborough tied the score. Several minutes later Port scored but the goal was called back and the score remained tied' until 1:27 when Seth split the Peterborough defence and rifled one in, br" assists going to Jon and Scott. With only 20 seconds left in the period, Port had another goal called back. The Nationals fought right back on a breakaway but were robbed by Shane. The third period was rough with no scoring by either team (good work by Casey, Glenn, Wyatt and Jeff Ashton) until 0:41, with the Peterborough net zmpty, Troy Campbell put the icing on the cake, assisted by Ian Parliament and Casey. The Legionaires had defeated the Nationals for the second time 'by a score of 3-1 and won their first tournament. Our penalty killers Danny Lyons, Adam H.; Troy and lan did a very good job throughout the tournament. MVP for the championship game was Seth Gray, a well-deserved award.
