Standings close for Pee Wee H.L. teams The PeeWee House League got off to a fast pace after the Christmas break, Unfortunately the first game of the day was a lopsided affair as Joel Phoenix put on a one-man show for the Larocque team. He led his teammates with a five goal performance and picked up an assist on another goal, Brad Monsma had a good game as well for the Larocque team as he displayed good forechecking and skating skills. Adam Brain played well on' defense and made some good lead passes. Jeff Harrison played very well digging along the and getting the puck out of the corners to his other teammates. Jeff also picked up a goal and an assist for his efforts. Chris Jones and Troy Hazeldean rounded out the scoring while Jamie Clarke picked up three assists. The other assists went to Jon Sanders with two and Devon Symes picking up an assist. The Big V team displayed a good team effort but just could not put the puck behind goaltender Tommy Keeble until late in the third period when Wade Ritchie made a picture- perfect pass to Ryan Hawkins in front of the net to spoil the shutout. oody's wins A! title in local broomball tourney This past weekend saw the playing of the Port Perry Broomball League's annual tournament at the Sunderland Arena with all six Port teams in attendance as well as others Cannington and Oshawa. th the number of host teams involved it was befitting that some of the championships would stay in town. s was accomplished with Woody's winning the "A* Division while Brooklin secured the "B". In the A final Woody's downed the mob by a 4-1 total with the goals going to Charlie Denis with a pair, while singles went to Wayne Bowden and Brian McBride. Ken St. Amant, Gene Woodrow, Bruce Woodrow and Dennis earned assists. In Brooklin's 4-0 triumph over Woody's of Cannington it was Jim Mason notching a pair while Wayne Tate and Ron Attwood got one each. Assists went to Attwood, Chris Lepine, and Nick Attwood. Of the remaining teams in the league, B & R lost to the mob in the A semi-final as did the Framer's being eliminated by Woody's. Blackstock lost to Brooklin in their B division semi and were put out of C semi-final by the Sharks of Cannington. In the C Pinal it was Lingar of Oshawa defeating the Sharks of Cannington. In ladies' plpy the B final had Antrim down the Rookies 1.0 while the Misfits took the A championship winning 4-2 over C A Steele. Pearce Novice takes the 'C' Division banner Friday night had the Pearce score ended in a 4-0 win for Port Perry. This game was a great tune-up for the weekend tournament in Port Hope. Port Perry took to thesice early on Saturday morning losing a close match in overtime to Oshawa Little NHL Bruins by the score of 3-2 in sudden death overtime. Scoring for Port Perry were Jamie Smith, assisted by Jeff Tarbotton and Stevie MacLennan Getting the other Port Perry goal was Spencer Churchill assisted by Mike Thompson and Dylan Harper Game Two was played at 3:00 range again assisted by who was all over the ice. Having a strong game for Port were Kevin Robins and Geoffrey Simpson who has never looked better since moving back to the point. Game three saw the Auctioneers go to the "C" final. The game started out slowly with no scoring in the first period but Port Perry took it to the Bowmanville team in the second period scoring four goals Beoring for the Auctioneers were Dylan Harper assisted by Justin Moffatt and Trever Lance. The second Port goal was by Jamie Smith assisted by Jeff and Trevor. Port Perry's third goal was scored by Trevor assisted by Jeff. with 37 seconds left in the period Jamie found the net to make the score 4-2 with assists going to Trevor and Stevie MacLennan. Having strong tournament games were Gord Bmith and Mark Duncan but being the strongest game in and game out was Thomas Lee the goalie. Keep up the good work guys. Ben Stephenson picked up, the other assist on the goal. Wade Ritchie played a good game on defence and forward. In the second period Eric Troan made a nice lead pass to Steve Martin on a possible scoring chance but he was stopped just after he hit the blue line. Emiel's answered back when Kam Cooper stole the puck in the Scala end zone and backhanded a beautiful shot over the shoulder of goaltender Chris for the Big V team. Goaltender Ryan Fraser played well for the Big V team as he had to face Thompson. The game went from end to end with some nice passing and it Mark Delaney played well on defense for the Emiel team. Nick Ostafichuk made a nice pass to Chad Lance for what looked like a sure goal but Chris Thompson came up with a great save. Todd Mitchell and Jeremy Hall played well on defense for the Scala team.
