Most of the time, that logic holds true; however, a few individuals may not be able to reduce their cholesterol level to below 200 without medication. If you've had a heart attack or have other risk factors, lowering this level is extremely important. It is also, important to reduce your low density lypoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, the kind that is most likely to build up in your arteries. We all know that the main way ofccomplishing this task is to reduce your intake of fat, especially cholesterol and saturated types. One sure way to reduce your intake of fat, is by consuming more complex carbohydrates like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, whole-grain breads, cereals and pasta. For some people, relatively minor changes can make a significant difference in cholesterol level in the long term. Try something different in your diet to perhaps replace meat from time to time, such as legumes. Lentils are one of my favourites. These are small, flat seeds that look like tiny buttons, casseroles. When combined with a starchy food like rice or potato, they can produce a hearty protein-rich meal. Being an excellent source of cellulose fibre, carbohydrates, pectins. and gums, their cholesterol-lowering ability is enhanced. They also boast being a good source of 'B' vitamins, including niadin and folacin, and provide leitm nhoanh A public schools, high school nursing schools, as well as self- help groups, palliative care teams and train pastoral care groups and-has held workphops throughout the Province for health care professionals dealing with burnout and stress. I think most of us are much more aware of what we're eating - good for us or not - than we were even a few years ago. It seems that we're constantly learning and re-learning about foods and their effect on our lives. Some, like myself, i are careful of foods that might give us a negative reaction, others must avoid even being around some foods - never mind eating or enjoying then. It's everywhere! Even many prepared baked goods like cakes, brownies and cookies contain soya flour or oils. Do you won der if our njoy t of more "boughten" goods has any direct relationship with all the allergies we suffer with almost constantly? Life was really much simpler and cheaper when we could recite the ingredients from memory of actually adding them ourselves. Here's one of my favourite quick loaves - it's really easy and quick, and stores well. Under the recipe I have written "Hospital" - maybe that's where I got the recipe a long time ago.
