He was married with a daughter and two grandchildren. An official at Paul Dwyer High School said Mr. DiCola's death came as a huge shock. "He was very well respected, such a responsible man who will be dearly missed," said the official. He had been a teacher at the school for the last six years and coached hockey and basketball. Five buses with staff and students left the school early Monday morning to attend the funeral in his home town of Perth, Ontario. Durham Region has received a grant from jobeOntario for up to $190,000 for this pilot project which also includes homes in Beaverton and Uxbridge. Ken Thompson of the Regional Works Department said last week that full details of the project are still being worked out. But he said about 420 homes in the four communities will be eligible for new toilets that use 1.5 gallons of water as opposed to five, low flow shower-heads and faucets. He said homeowners would be required to pay 40 per cent of the $600 which is the average cost per house. The project is slated to get underway this year and Mr. Thompeon said details of how homeowners can apply will be announced in the next month or two. "This project is designed to reduce overall water consumption," he said. In announcing the jobeOntario grant for $180,000 last week, Durham East MPP Gord Mills said this water conservation project will generate five person years of employment. "This underlines the government's commitment to protect the environment, conserve water resources and create jobs for people in this area. These jobs "will help give Ontario communities the services and stability needed to attract new industry and to plan for managed growth," said Mr. Mills.
