'Guardian Tweens finish third in Central Region Port Perry's Guardian Drug five Central Ontario Region "A" teams. As this season comes to an end, Port's Tween "A" girls continue to improve and become a force with which to be reckoned. The Central Ontario Region provincial competition has five area teams. Port Perry's squad entered the competition as the First opponent - Ajax. Four previous encounters had ended up as Ajax victories. Not this time! Lauren Christie, our first year goalie, provided the catalyst for this 3-1 victory. Key saves gave the opportunity for great breakout plays as the one and only Bonni-Jo Norton assisted on two of the Sosls. Janine hat trick thanks to the sharp pass and pick-up of Jennifer Elliot, Alechia Cracknell and Amanda Wakef Numerous Ajax charges were thwarted at the blue line by the defensive duo of Janna Senyk and Brooke Shanley. A dejected Ajax team could not believe what had happened - a Port Perry 8-1 victory. In Game Two, it took only 13 seconds for Whitby to score their first of four goals in a 4-1 Whitby victory. An uphill struggle saw Laura Heoker find the high corner with one minute remaining to break the Whitby shutout. Jennifer Elliot and Diane Vanderligt assisted on this one. Once again, numerous saves by Lauren Christie kept the game a close one. Spirits were low as Port took to in this one - three times. Two of these were set up by the hard work of Laura Hooker. Amanda's hard free pass shot put Port ahead 3-2 at the half. Then Brooke Bhanley's birthday surprise - a geal! Moving up from defense, Brooke's shot handcuffed the Pickering goalie and almost broke through the mesh. Diane pegged the corner ona pass from Laura and then Janine split the defence as Port was comfortably ahead 6-3. . Penalti + the ice against Osh The girls played hard but of eight goals scored against us, five were on the powerplay. Port Perry's aggressive play against a small, speedy team accumulated penalties that led to an 8-8 Oshawa victory. Between penalties, Janine Hammond snapped in two goals. Bonni-Jo's determination get up Amanda for Port's third goal in this game. With Provincials out of sight, a high-spirited Port Perry group played Pickering with third place on the line. A boisterous group of fans brought out the best of Port's Tweens on Sunday.
