=~ 38 -- Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, March 15, 1994 = Bantams bow out of playoffs to Collingwood The Port Perry Country Style Bantam's series is over. After series. Kent Johnston played ly in goal in this game, suffering an ng loss in Collingwood, we came back home and put on a clinic for our dedicated fans. Although we lost the game, we put forth a great effort. The breaks that were needed just weren't there. Replying to an early Collingwood goal was Tom Chambers, who picked up a pass from Tim Fitzpatrick and wrapped it around the net. The puck dribbled in, past the sprawling netminder, who appeared to be more interested in making snow angels than in stopping the puck Our second and final goal came at the midway mark of the second period. From deep in our own end, Shane Norton passed the puck to Mark Brownson. Mark slapped the puck at the net, and Tim Fitzpatrick banged home the rebound. It was 3-2 late in the third when Collingwood scored an emptynetter to send us home shaking our heads to a second loss, putting us in a hole - down 2-0 in a three out of five keeping us in the entire way. (Collingwood must have hit the post nine times, only taking five shots at one point. Figure that one out!) The third game of the series was played in the Scugog Arena. We just did not have any zip for this one. Our only goal by Tim Fitzpatrick showed small signs of hockey, but other than that we just didn't play well at all. There's always another year of hockey, and it would have been different had we lost out to a team with no skill. , Great season to Brian Bickmore, Kevin Gray, Tom Chambers, Jason Logan, Adam Hunter, Mark Brownson, Tim Fitzpatrick, Colin Laird, Scott Heffern, Rob Murphy, Chris Drury and Lenny Johnston. Thanks to coaching staff Todd Wilbur, Lee Wilbur, Hilly Wilbur Johnny Ennis (before) and manager Carol Wilbur. And finally, a very special thanks goes out to our sponsor, Country Style Donuts. Brewers first victims in local Broomball playoffs The first casualty of this year's Port Perry Broomball League semi-finals was made apparent this past Sunday when the Blackstock Brewers bowed out to the Brooklin Bruins in a 4-3 overtime battle. The first period ended tied at one apiece after Blackstock had drawn first blood on a goal by Tom Wotten from Ron Short only to see the Bruins retaliate a minute later with Murray Down assisting Jim Mason. Early in the second half the Bruins pulled ahead by two with Wayne Tate and Kevin Ibbittson scoring from Ron Attwood and Chris Lepine. With just over two minutes left in regulation time, the Brewers netted two in-quick succession with Short scoring one as well as marking an assist on Waype McGuigan's. Wotten also drew a helper. With this comeback, total goals overtime was forced. During this time both squads were rather tentative and had a small number of chances, but the only one to go in came off the broom Doors tie 1-1 in series opener The Scugog Overhead Doors Pee Wee B team opened its all- Ontario hockey final with Mooretown over the weekend and came away with a 1-1 draw in this best of five (six point) series This was a goalie's battle and the Doors Corey Branton came up with big stope time and again to keep his team in the game and force overtime when things were deadlocked a zeros after regulation. Mooretown scored first in the OT but David Gainey came through in the final minute for the Doors salvage the 1-1 deadlock. These teams will be in action this coming Saturday March 19 at the Scugog Arena with faceoff set for 7:00 PM. In the second series, Woody's Auctions evened it out at a win apiece as they downed the B & R Swampers 2-0 in a much chippier game than the first of the day was. Charlie Dennis from Jim Gregg opened up the scoring late in the first period and this held up until with 6:44 left in regulation time when Neil Woodrow netted a strange one as his shot from the corner banked in off a defender. Rick Lees between the pipes for Woody's received the shutout. It should be noted that the final game of this best of three series will go this upcoming Sunday, March 20 at 5:00 p.m. Several of the league's players will be participating in the Provincial Championships this coming weekend also to be held in the Ottawa area.
